Hi all, I've lurked on this forum for over 2 years - seeing what CPU/GPU upgrades you guys are trying, over-clocking etc

Problem I have started when I put an extra 2Gb of RAM in - the laptop would freeze up randomly.
I purchased a matched pair of 2x2Gb SoDIMM but that didn't solve the problem - only the inner most RAM slot appeared to be functioning correctly (trying 4 sticks of RAM) so I had a look at my BIOS.

I had previously flashed the BIOS to 1.17 and saw on the Compal website that rev 1.19 was available... you can probably guess the rest

So, now when I press the 'On' button, the fans whirr in to life but the screen doesn't even come on, never mind allow me a recovery option :-(

    I'm a bit sad really - T9600, GT9600M, 320Gb hybrid HDD, 4Gb DDR2 800 and it's dead!!

What is possible? Can the BIOS be re-flashed somehow?

Hmm, there are not too much people around here anymore, and I am not that much of a BIOS reflashing/recovering pro.

You might want to ask your question more generally - not Compal specific, but BIOS specific. Did it have a Phonix BIOS?

Maybe ask "How to recover PHOENIX BIOS (in Compal JHL90).

Anyway, I think you might even find something here when using the forum search.

Good luck and sorry for not solving your problem

Thanks for replying, I realised that with this being a 3 year old laptop that there would be very few people left tinkering with them

It is Phoenix BIOS, I'm searching for 'blind flash' at the moment...

The supplier has stated that it requires a new motherboard
