Setup in my sig
Yeah I think since I already have a fair netbook/laptop i'm alright with getting a desktop. WAY more future proof. Especialy with these 790i MB's which can support Nehalem - sweet!
Anybody know any good watercooling unit that will match up with my Dell 730?
-
-
and you felt the need to make a thread on it *LOL* a few months before they come out with the moible version huh...*LOL*
just kidding!!
why wait? get it now then upgrade later? -
lol. yeah I guess i like keeping people informed lol
I'm just thankful I was able to sell off my m860tu -
Congrats! You wont regret it for a second.
-
-
wootz good choice there
but..
why only one GPU? =/ -
one gpu because there will be two in the next few months - two 4870's that is
Hey - OCZ whitebook's really can do the x9000 OR x9100 - Mark From K|N Confirmed this. SHould I stick in a x900 for $300 or a x9100 for $400?
They're both relatively the same - one would save more cash goign the economic route... -
save the cash and run with the x9000. i ran it. it runs great. and since you can over clock it. you'll stay real close to the x9100. trust me...i have tested it against an x9100 on a 1066 fsb system.
-
I say go x9100..dont be skeered! I did it, you can too. Heck, only $100 difference..right?
-
yeah johnksss - I remember you had it in your gateway I think, right?
Yeah the difference is $120. They're both pretty much the same in terms of power and OC ability +/- a bit, but the x9100 does run on the 45nm process whereas x9000 is 65 I think - so maybe that'll drop temps or something..
still wondering? i've got two opposing votes thus far! -
yep, that would be me drth_sti
it's only 100 bucks now!!!!!
yeah, go with the x9100 then for sure!
edit: and it's a 45nm as well, its just clocked lower and is on a 800 mhz fsb instead of 1066 -
crud - the x9100 I was gonna get is now 200 more expensive.
OK - so I can get the x9000 for 300 and the x9100 for 500 (EBAY)
What should I do then? Is it worth 200 extra?
Johnksss - you were talking about just sticking with a desktop instead. I have a 14" already and the Nagamaki i'd get would pretty much just sit tight on the NZXT cooler i've got. I'd probably keep it on day/night and such. Do you still think the desktop is better to get? -
well...so far... a few people have giving the big gaming laptops back and either got desktops or lighter versions of these gaming machines....
and you already have a notebook. the sensible me says get the desktop... the have the top of the line notebook me says get that and be a happy camper. *LOL*
but in the end...you would probably benifit better from the desktop -
Desktops are not just more powerful but offer much bigger price-performance ratio. On top of that u can do whatever u want with it!! raise FSB, lower ram latency, give that 280 more voltage, do RAID 10 setup, put water cooling. In laptop world u re limited to what the manufacturers BIOS allows
-
Gratz on the new purchase!
I've had mine for afew days and still playing with it. You will be very happy with this laptop!! IT ROCKS! -
...unless you purchase a HP Desktop. then you're still skrewed
-
Well - I went with the DELL XPS 730 in my sig.
Price after discount = 1100 - not bad (shipped)
I guess I have to create a new thread with the opposite title
I got the non-watercooled unit. I want to get the watercooled version but that's 1k more which I don't want to buy. I need to look into aftermarket watercooling or seeing if I can upgrade it to the H2C model later....anybody know about this?
Totally OT. -
well now... looks like the title of the thread needs to be changed....
-
aww =( thought that there would be another addition to the community. oh wells
-
I say go for the x9100 due to the smaller nm process of 45. 45 compared to 65 drastically reduces the temps.....and will therefore allow for more overclocking. it also has a 800mhz FSB and is 260mhz less. get the x9100 1 hand down, not two lol
-
i've honestly got to be one of the most fickle tech guys in the world.
The XPS 730 has not even arrived at my door yet and I am having doubts about whether a desktop is the right thing - considering the OCZ is just fantastic. I mean it certainly seems like the perfect desktop replacement - with the added mobility factor.
You guys that have high end gaming desktops - and laptops - do you still use your desktops? Or have you transitioned more to laptop use overall? -
I used to use desktops.. I dropped 'em all together. No need if you have a portable desktop
-
See this is what i'm talking about! If you have a crazy fast laptop that's able to play games then what's the diff you know?
...
I mean - with the ocz whitebooks - they are surely upgradeable to 4870's in the future - so that's awesome - and they can go up to quad core - and they are affordable - and a great product. It just seems like a win win win situation.
I honestly think that with dual 4870's you guys will hit the 20k 3dmark06 mark and surpass it... Meanwhile i've got my 60lb xps 730...
And the argument that desktops are upgradeable - is that moot because this ocz whitebook is upgradeable too? At least to q9300? and dual 4870's when provided? -
i use my desktop every single day...now included...lol
-
that's only cause your rig is in the dr's office
-
man both you guys - Johnksss and E-wrecked are so diametrically opposed.
I guess this is what i'll do - i'll keep the dell xps 730 for a week - try it and and see if I like it. Thanks to dell's 21 day return policy i've got ample time to see if I want to keep it - if I don't then i'm getting the ocz whitebook faster than eggs getting cooked on an m15x -
i only say this because i own 2 server/3 pc's/3 laptops
-
XPS 730 will smoke every laptop. Dual GTX 280s
I wanna play crysis on thaaaattt
-
As far as upgrades:
The Executioneer uses a MXMII gpu. However, the chipset only allows me to upgrade as far as the 7950 GTX; which I did. Same deal with the cpu and selections. Interface standards, chipsets and proprietary cooling changes make upgradability a short shelf life. Mine was upgradable for about a year, then they stopped making the parts and used components were about all you could find. There isn't a continuation of upgrades or aftermarket like you can find for desktops...
Counterpoint:
Some desktops use a lot of "on board" solutions. So you're also sort of screwed for upgrades without major component swapping. -
mighty is it a 570ru or a 570u? the ru can be upped all the way to the 9800gtx..so i assume you have the older style correct?
-
...
-
Exactly what model Sager is it you have?
From what you say, it almost makes me think you have a 5790 something. If so, I think you should be able to upgrade the GPU without any mobo change. -
Alright - chapter closed. I am KEEPING my XPS 730!
Man this setup just rockz
Q9450, dual 3870 crossfire, 500gb, 790i MB, ...etc . ALL for 1100 shiped.
Itsa keeper -
Looked it up, and the crossover Sager model would be 5760. The base model is a Clevo m570u which has no further upgrade path.
The next step on the chassis was the m570ru (Sager model 5792). It also can't use the 8800m; however with that one, you can upgrade the mobo:
Now keep in mind; All those revisions to the same chassis line has happened over a two year period, hence the shelf life issues and notebook upgradability. Also look at the prices... you'd be looking at approx $1100 to upgrade to a nearly obsolite notebook if it's even available anymore. Why bother?
Desktop standards don't go through these type issues as often, and the contortions you'd have to go through probably could cause your head to explode. Which brings me back full circle.... Yes, notebooks can be upgradable, but it's not something you can really expect you are going to do because by the time you want to, there won't be any realistic upgrade path to take beyond selling it and buying a new one. -
OK, in fact any 579x (M570RU) can handle the 8800MGTX as long as they have bios 1.00.08 or later and I believe that they will also support the 9800M series (I know the 5793 does, and am pretty sure the 5790/1/2 does too).
The 5796 (M570TU) simply uses the montevina cpus (579x could handle penryns) and ddr3 ram (no performance advantage over ddr2)
Does your laptop have an lcd on the front of the palmrest? If it does it is def. an M570u (5760) if not, then you should have some upgradeability.
To be certain, upload a photo of your laptop. -
man - I can't believe it.
I originally got my XPS 730 with 1 x 3870 card. but because I got an exchange because the unit was defective dell upgraded me to a blu ray writer AND 9800GX2, and an extra 250GB HD space!!!! So all in all I paid $1100 for my rig..!!!
Just BANISHED my xps 730 desktop and now ordering the NAGAMAKI!
