    hello HEL80 fans :)

Is it posible that my system is freezing at the startup sequence due to incompatible DDR2 modules?

I bought Kingmax 512 mb 667 mhz cas5 memory modules and as I mentioned in this topic ( http://forum.notebookreview.com/showthread.php?t=87834) my laptop started just ONCE ! :(

today, after work, I replaced ram from bottom slot to upper one, and what? It works :) I was happy..i started to install new system, but after a couple of minutes it hanged again and stopped booting..

I haven't found on Kingmax WWW that Compal HEL80 supports those memory modules...

So ..give me some advice... Am I supposed to change my RAM first?

Sorry for my poor english skills :)

    Greetz

What you can do is download an Ubuntu/Kubuntu bootable LiveCD and run memtest86+. That should tell you if you have any bad memory. You might also consider taking out one of the modules, seeing if it works, and then swapping them. Your computer can still run in single-channel mode fine. If it's stable, then you can tell if one of the memory modules is bad or not.

I used to sell Kingmax and personally use it years ago because they were actually making their own memory modules using a different style that was much better then the normal. Long story short I've never had a compatibility problem with them in any system, so I'd do what Pitabred recommended to make sure the memory is good.

Great suggestion Pitabred! Definitely try that. Hopefully it's only a single bad memory stick causing your problems.

Thank you guys for your quick replies :)

Today I was in a little shop with notebooks, where some nice dude replaced my Kingmax chip with Kingston 512 mb/533 mhz...he run as you said memtest86 and what happened? My hel80 posted, run the test for about 30 minutes and nothing crushed :)

I replaced again memory and i tested mine....of course after 3 minutes memtest failed...so it was an explanation :)

I bought new Corsair 512 mb/667 mhz DDR2 module and now i'm writing to you from my brand new T7200 C2D HEL80 :D

Tomorrow I will stick this kingmax chip with corsair together and see, maybe it will works :) if not, i'm sending bad chip to my reseller.

    Thank you very much :)
