I'm upgrading my ol' FL90 and was thinking if it is at possible to retrofit a LED display in place of a CCFL one, provided that the connectors are the same? Anyone did it?

I'm not sure the power lines would be there.

LED panels have a single connector delivery power and data while CCFL panels have a power connector and a data connector.

That's true. In most cases it's possible to just remove the inverter and give the input (PWM signal+drive voltage) to the LED backlight. Adapting the 30 pin connector to a 40 pin LED backlight "standard" is also straight forward.
    Requires some soldering though.

Why the change? I don't see any improvements with LED other than slight energy saving...

Certainly haven't seen visual improvements over a decent CCFL LCD

Personally I think CCFL LCD screens are better than LED Screens.

In all the laptops I've seen the images seem to appear more vivid and true on a CCFL screen, whereas LED might provide you with a minute power saving the images seem to be more bleached out..
    I wouldn't bother upgrading.

Depends on the panel and also the effects of dimming over time.
