    Hi,

My laptop screen got smashed at the airport today because I put it through as baggage for the hold (I know stupid). By smashed I mean the physical screen is still intact and as new but it has massive cracks running through it, a point where it looks like a cricket ball hitting a windscreen and as though blue ink has been spilt on it.

    Basically its screwed.

    So couple of questions.

How much do you think this will cost to be repaired/for a new one? (even just a ball park figure since I have absolutely no idea).

Should I send it back to the manufacturer (I'm assuming it won't be covered on warranty) or take it to an independent PC repair shop, or a place like PC world.

For the record its a 15.4" WXGA 1280x800 screen on a Zepto 2225W.

    Thanks for any help/advice.

I'm sorry to hear about the damage to your notebook LCD. For the record, it is always best to keep your notebook with you--and stowed under the seat in front of you. Even in the overhead compartments I have heard horror stories of notebooks getting crushed.

Unfortunately, the LCD is the most expensive component in the system. I would definitely send it to Zepto--as they have the matching part and know their own system. As far as price is concerned, I am not sure. I would estimate it would run between $400-1000 US, depending on whether or not there is any additional damage to the system.

Good luck with sorting that out.

Do you think you could claim on your insurance? Some policies cover accidental damage but I really have no idea.

Just got a quote back from Zepto and they say it will cost £250 for parts, labour and return shippping.

Very happy considering the figures that have been suggested!

Sent off my insurance claims form so we will wait and see.

BTW Zepto have really really improved their customer services! When I first bought my laptop 6 months ago I emailed them twice and never received a reply.

Fast forward to yesterday and I email them asking for a quote on repairs, I had a reply today. I replied and an invoice was sent within the hour! It was a great personal service.
