i have a 3250 that shuts down on me whenever i switch to battery power. i know that the battery is charged/charging fine. when i remove the plug, it shuts down anywhere from 10 seconds to 1 minute. also when i try to boot the computer on battery only, it will shutdown halfway thru the boot.

ive read threads about a dc jack, which i dont think it is, and other parts of the charging circuit. can someone post a pic or lead me in a better direction that i can try.

any help would be greatly appreciated.

ps. I am a new member and have searched this whole forum. i did find a response on page 18 that was similar but it sent me to the now defunct averatecforum.

Its possible that your battery is not making contact. Is it loose inside the battery bay?

    hey

sounds like your laptop battery has a few bad cells in it. causing it to report charging / charged but infact its not. or only charging a few cell's

the dc jack could be the problem

the way to test that would be

remove battery, plug in, boot , wiggle jack

if it shuts down during the wiggle. bad jack (adapter end or dc socket)

    battery is definitely secure...

my sister has the same exact machine as me and i put my battery in her machine and worked without problems.

also i removed it and wiggled the hell out of the adaptor cord and it never shut off.

i may have read somewhere a year or so back that it could be a something with a switching circuit, but i cant seem to get detailed info on that.

    thanks everyone!

This is highly likely that you have a few bad cells inside your battery as the above posted said. I have seen many laptops have this as they age. They report that the battery if fully charged but when the battery is used it will immediately drop in capacity in under a minute. Just happens over time. You most likely need a new battery.

    EDIT

With what you just stated, it is definitely the battery and you need a new one.

    hi

the charging circuit can overheat in some cases. but would not be in use when your using the battery without it plugged in.

did you try your sisters batt in your notebook ? , if it does the same thing , try here adapter too.

adapters can go bad, where they dont provide sufficient current to both operate and charge the laptop at the same time leading to the battery not charging and the laptop running.

if either works. you know the obvious solution.

if not post your results and we can continue to troubleshoot.

I would *not* recommend buying a generic battery as they are often defective or do not work at all; spend the extra money and buy the real thing.

    thanks for the tip!
i have been looking at the fremontek website and noticed that they only sell refurbished batteries for my model. would this be acceptable?

i know its a gamble being that they are previously used, but i dont know where else to look to get a genuine new batt.

If Averatec no longer manufactures batteries, refurbished is the next best thing.
