I have a t9400 KHLB02 laptop with mobility radeon 4650 and windows xp 32bit. I have this heating problem and i can't seem to solve it. when the computer is idle the temperatures of the cores are 41-42 Celsius, and when I play demanding games they run smoothly, but the temperatures of the cores go up. At about the range of 59-65 (after about 10 minutes of playing) Celsius the computer shuts down without a warning. I tried cleaning the fan with some compressed air but it won't seem to help. I'm pretty desperate and I would be grateful if anyone could identify and help me solve this pickle.

Did you check the temperature of your HD 4650 - I think its related with that, maybe, as 65 degrees CPU temp is not perfect, but reasonable for a laptop under load.
The CPU temp threshold is normally at 100 degree, as far as I know.
Get GPUZ, it can monitor the GPU temps and log them to file.
Good luck! -
I did this and got these results seconds before the computer shut down

I see the gpu is really what causing the problem, 110 celsius before shutdown is alot i guess. What do i need to do to fix this? -
Yes, it is a lot! Anything beyond 90 is at least worrying - 100 is dangerous, 110 is killing it!
First off, do not do any GPU intense things, like gaming until you fixed it.
Playing videos should be okay, unless its in high or very high resolution. Just to be safe, monitor your temperatures all the time!
Is the laptop new?
Did you open in?
Did you overclock it?
Is the fan running?
If you did not open it or overclocked it, it also could be, that your card is dying.
Report back, I see if I can help. I am no pro in this ... maybe someone else joins this thread ... -
Sometimes compressed air is not enough, take the fan out and check the vents its amazing how much dust you can find there.

Ok no games till fixing the problem. done. I bought my laptop in november last year i think, so it makes it about 1 year and a quarter old. I've tried to clean the dust couple of times and one time with compressed air (I opened it) but it still doesn't work. I never overclocked it, and the fan is running ok i guess, either on 30% or in intense cases in 100%, nothing in between, weird?
and ejay, I would take the fan out but I don't really know how to do it and im afraid ill just do wreck the electrical components there, so if you have a guide how to take the fan out for the khlb I would be more than grateful. In the meantime ill buy compressed air and try to clean as much as I can. Should I buy a cooling base for the laptop? and if so, which ones do you recommend?
Thanks for the quick responses by the way. -

That is the manual for your laptop it shows you how to take the fan of to get to the grill hope it helps. -
Thank you very very much!!! I think I fixed the problem. I removed the fan according to the guide and there were tones of dust (I thought I cleaned it). Now in games under load, the gpu is no more then 80 Celsius (its constantly on 79-80 Celsius during the game), and the computer no longer shuts down, are those reasonable temperatures for the gpu? I also saw the fan only run on 30% and runs on 100% when he was like on 100 Celsuis, before I fixed the problem. Is there a way to set the fan to spin at more then 30% on those temperatures? (so it can cool down the gpu to even less then 80 Celsius).

80 degree is perfectly okay under (3D game-like) load.
You might wanna check SpeedFan, also undervolting th e GPU would work.
But as I see it, there's no reason to go down that path, esp. undervolting as it needs flashing vbios, and that is nothing I recommend just out of the fun of it.
Sit back, relax, try SpeedFan if you like, and enjoy gaming. -
Ah thanks
I tried speedfan already but it doesn't show the speed of the fan, it doesn't recognize it. Thanks anyway
Laptop keeps heating up and shuts down
