Now that the 1050 has been out for a while, does anyone have any problems with it? I'm gonna be picking one up for a friend as a gift.

I see you already posted this on the Averatec forums, there's very few if any 1050 owners on these forums. But from I've heard from countless reviews and opinions, the earlier models at least have longevity problems. I hear they suffer from a poor quality touchpad most of all.

Mine should be arriving tomorrow. I'll be putting it through it's paces for the next 5 months or so. Gotta love Costco's return policy!

I plan to do a very in depth review eventually.

Just wanted to mention Sams Club has the same policy and they have the Averatec 1050 on their website.

I've had it for around 24 hours now. I notice three things so far: I am noticing neck strain because it is so tiny, it gets amazing battery life, and the touchpad is the worst piece of crap every concieved.

I've had one for well over 6 months, and used daily. While I agree teh touchpad is a weak spot, it is usable. The scroll function is not very functional. It seems there isn't enough sensitivity to the pad. My left mouse button is a little sticky, I may have gotten a little something down in there or something. The fan sometimes makes a light rattleing noise, but it works. I found the little button that extracts the pcmcia card pops out too easily, so I trimmed mine down a little so it won't get bumped unless I intend for it to. The drive drawer button is accidentally activated easily, causing the drawer to pop open. Other than that, performance wise, I haven't had any problems. It can be upgraded to a 1Gb stick of ram. Wireless works great.

That said, I'll be selling mine to recoup some funds for my Sony SZ purchase.
