The hinge of my Compal HEL 80 is starting to become a bit loose. I was wondering how to fix it. I thought it'd be a pretty good idea to tighten the screws a little. However, I have absolutely now idea how to get to the screws.

Does anyone have any (ohter) ideas? Thanks. :)

I found one, but it didn't exactly describe how to get to the hinge. Maybe I overlooked a bit?

I don't really see it, but I'll have a more detailed look later. Thanks in advance.

If you take the keyboard cover off, the top 'latch' that includes the buttons and leds, you will see two screws on each hinge. There should be a small spot for a flat screwdriver head in the top left corner of the keyboard, just about above your ESC key, where you can drive your driver in and lift it (the 'latch'). There is also screws behind two wee black round stickers you can peel off with a screwdriver/nail (nail preferably), on the rear end of the notebook, one per hinge, and the right hinge has a screw on the bottom just below it, which is not really shown in that guide so can cause confusion, don't pull if it's not loose is the general idea in such cases, luckily I didn't. This guide is also for El80, VBI version. HEL80 could be a bit different here and there, but mostly probably similar, if not same.

    Good luck.

Sorry for my late response, but thanks for this clear guide imachine. However, I haven't tried to tighten it, since I was wondering whether this is even possible. I mean, the hinge losing resistance, isn't that something you can't really solve and just have to live with? I'd like to know if anyone had the same problem and was able to fix it.

I'm just a bit shocked you have a loose hinge... I didn't think Compal's were capable of such wear and tear after their track record :)

Sorry to hear about your HEL80 becoming a bit unhinged lol. Mine stays open most of the time so I guess it hasn't had the everyday wear and tear that a more mobile user would give it.

Let us know how it works out for you if you have the time to open it up and look around.

You brought back bad memories to my previous lappy, the Promedion D500P.
This laptop was notorious for this problem.
