mm.. i was arguin with my friend the other day.. need yalls opinion.

what would be a better AMD based system for the $$:

    The MSI 1029 (MT-30, X700 128mb, etc..)..

or the Asus z81k (mobile 3700, radeon 9700 128mb, etc...)

and in general, who makes better screens?
    and a more sturdy product?

he wanted to get the Asus, but i was telling him to get the MSI insted, good advice?

The z81k is a pretty oold model, the MSI should be better in terms of newer technology.

If he really wants a good and cheap AMD system, look at either the Gateway 7510GX or the Acer TM4402.

overall cost isnt much of a problem..

i like that acer, but graphics card sux on it, otherwise it would own.
and the gateway is a hog (battery, etc..), its kinda bulky and design is ugly.
though thats the notebook im getting (gateway).. still.

hes got bout 1400-1600 to spend :)

first if your an Z81k, z81ka kinda guy
    you NEED that athlon

    the
The MSI 1029 you proposed has an EXCELANT chipset ati RS 480m

    1. the ati RS 480m is WAY more linux compatable, then z81k nforce

    2. contains no driver conflics w/ grafix accel
    (the nforce3 go 150 + radeon9700)

so if you want a dependable, non-conflicting, optamizable to its fullest extent set-up w/ that radeon and athlon64 POWERFULL combiniation there are better choices then the
    The MSI 1029

but if you buy from a reseller, won't they basically take care of any repairs, etc you may need? most people don't buy from MSI directly so I don't see them really being a factor in handling your laptop if it needs repair
