I received my MX about 10 days ago. It's great on pretty much every front, but the screen is really hurting my eyes. It looks nice but within a few minutes of using it my eyes feel really tired. I've modified the fonts to make things bigger, but that doesn't seem to help. I also tried turning down the brightness, which seems to help but not much. Maybe the glossy screen is just no good for me. My old laptop was a '98 dell and I could use it all day without my eyes bothering me.
I really want to keep the computer but I have to find a way to make it easier on the eyes. Does anyone have any suggestions?

First, I turned the brightness down considerably, and that has helped.
Secondly at native resolution I was getting some eye strain. I found that wearing my reading glasses (which I only normally use for reading journal articles and microprint) helped relieve the strain tremendously.
Third, unlike some other comments about the W3V, I find that this screen has a very large range of viewability, both horizontally and vertically. Try adjusting the viewing angle.
Fourth, the screen surface is almost glass-like and reflects back room lighting and reflections to a point that it can be distracting. Try to adjust the position of the computer to minimize distracting reflections.
Fifth, (coming from a neuroscience background) one of the things I love about this display is the immersive way that it pulls you into what is displayed. In the case of games and DVD movies in a darkened room, this is downright trippy!!! What I think is happening though is that the eyes think that what is being displayed is located a few inches BEHIND the surface plane of the screen. Thus, your eyes might be strained because they are trying to find a false focal length. Tilting the screen might help this.
It also would depend on your style of work. When I am using the computer I do a lot of constant glancing away at articles, data tables, illustrations, and things on the desk. (I also glance at the girls in the coffee shop). If your style of use has you staring intently with an unbroken gaze, then that might cause discomfort.
Finally, it may just be that you don't prefer the glossy screen, which is fine, it is just a personal preference. In any case, I can sympathasize with you; I have found that for me it has taken some getting used to. Good luck with whatever you decide. Doug -
So rclimbs and paleotechie, you have had no problems with heat? You couldn't give me mobile meter temps by any chance could you?

After 3 hours: Chip temp 61C HDD temp 42C
After 4 hours: Chip temp 62C HDD temp 43C
I hope this gives you an idea that this is a cool cat computer!! Doug -
Holy Crap!
You are scaring the bejeezus out of me.
I am on the verge of splurging for an MX, but eye-strain is my #1 concern. I am also a matte-screen user, and this issue seems like a make or break for me.
Any other thoughts from MX owners?
Thanks -
I love the screen for watching movies, but haven't gotten a chance to do any real work on it. I have a 23 inch LCD for my desktop so really that's where I've been doing most of my work and WoWing. I personally like the glossy screen - everything looks much more lifelike with it.
However, I did have a couple of dead pixels on mine so I sent it back to get the LCD replaced. They're really on top of things over at PortableOne and have been quick to respond to my emails.
Anyone know where I can get a nice microfiber cloth to put on the keyboard between the screen? I have a feeling the foamy sheet P1 shipped with the unit is going to wear out in a hurry. -
http://www.shaggymac.com/ They make very nice microfiber cloth screen protectors. They have both ready made and custom sizes. I was impressed with the quality- a little thicker than the typical eyeglass cloth, but still great for cleaning your screen too. Delivery is fast.
