Does anyone out there have the MX with the optional transflective screen? If so, what would be the benefits of having this screen other than being able to see it under sunlight? Is worth the additional $400? Thanks

I have not seen the regular MX screen, but I am assuming it is similar to the Fujitsu CV screen. That said, the transreflective screen is quite different even in indoor light. As I have posted previously, I am not sure if you would characterize it as glossy or matte (semi-glossy perhaps?). Looking at the screen parallel to the surface it definitely appears glossy, and in brighter ambient light looks glossier, but with regular overhead lighting it is not quite matte-like, but does not have that glossy surface which can be annoyingly reflective. Yet, it has almost the same striking depth of color that the Fujitsu CV screens have, which many maintain is the best of the glossy type screens. It is a very clear screen. I purchased it on the UX, which is a 12.1" screen, with a resolution of 1024 x 768, which I thought would be problematic; even though I previously had the same resolution on a 14" screen, and always hate the smaller print sizes, on this screen I found it surprisingly comfortable. Likewise, my daughter (whom the laptop was purchased for, but I had spent a few days setting it up and testing it) has not found the resolution or downsizing of the screen to be an issue, and has not even enlarged the display font, and she has had tons of work and been using it most of the day for the past few days. She had liked the Fujitsu screen very much because of the color depth and vibrancy but had found the reflectiveness bothersome at times; while we would have happily kept the Fujitsu if not for the myriad of problems we had with the machine, this screen is more comfortable for lengthly use. Short of being able to see the screen for yourself, what you might want to do is go to a store and look at the glossy screens and play with them for awhile. Compare them to the matte screens. If you find that the matte screens look blah in contrast, but that the glossy screens are too reflective, then you will find the transreflective screen sort of a compromise, with the best of both worlds. If you like the glossy screens, spend some time typing on them, and look at a few different ones to see what it will look like in different lighting angles- if it bothers you, then I would say spend the extra $400 if you can swing it. The glossy screens are great for movies and pictures, but if you use it mostly for text and for long periods it can produce eye fatigue, and many people prefer the matte finish for that useage. On a personal note, I spent almost that amount for the upgrade on the UX, and am very glad I did. In fact, I sent Ivan an e-mail telling him he really should advertise that screen more heavily, because it is very different than any other screen I have seen- and I did a ton of shopping. The way I look at it, the screen may be the most important part of the computer when it comes to how comfortable the computer is to use, and if you use it a lot, your eyes will thank you. HTH
