Hi, was wondering if anyone knew or ZeptoUK knew if the 6625 for the 8600M GT uses the MXM graphics module or other standard form factor. This would mean that the card could in theroy be easily upgraded at a later date, even to the new 8800M cards that might come out. Just a thought as like to be future proof lol

see here for some info i found

From my limited knowledge on the matter it is extremely unlikely you'll be able to fit a 8800 into a 15'' laptop. For the same reason you didn't see 7900's in 15'' laptops you won't be seeing 8800's in them either.

Come on man! This is the 21st century. Anything is possible!! Anything! :)

lol, I just put my order in for the 6625WD so I'd be extremely happy if an upgrade was possible in the future. :p

Could be. There seems to be a Zeptt out there that might have MXM. If you ever find out, don't hesitate to let us know.

I'm curious as well, thought i'm not expecting the '8800' to show up in 15" as well. If at all possible, my next laptop will therefore probably be a 17" Santa Rosa, 4gb RAM and the 8800 (as follow-up to the 7950).

8800m should be released end of summer or into fall but will be this year. looks like znote dont use MXM (only on 17inch laptops?). I think the better laptop to get would be the asus c90 which is fully upgradeable. You can order it now in the states :)

Would you want to upgrade is the question, by the time you do, technology will have moved on X times and probably making MXM idea redundant.

the MXM is now MXM2 for the 8x00m graphics cards and ATI will make MXM2 cards as well. This is brand new tech and should be around for a few years making the possibility of upgrading your graphics card in 2008 for the new years games.
