I'm under the impression that this Visa Dividend Platinum card I have will double the length of a manufacturers warranty when I purchase a product with it. With that in mind the cost/benefit difference between a doubled 1 year manufacturer's warranty and, say, a 3 year extended warranty starts to look pretty feeble. Thus the quesiton becomes:
How good is Averatec's warranty service?
I see that they have an HQ in orange county. That's pretty okay for me (I'm in Vancouver/Calgary in western Canada) assuming that's where I'd have ot ship it? Do you think their coverage is sufficient? I treat what is mine well and I know what I'm talking about when it comes to computers, so really I just need to have solid defect coverage.
Thanks for any input.

If you know what you're doing then you know that warranties are bs anyways. You'd be repasting a system, cleaning it and upgrading it which in most cases voids the warranty, not to mention that if something goes south you'd have t wait such a long time to the point, where buying a new or used part to fix your system is so much faster.
There are so many people who are waiting weeks to months to get their notebook back from a fix, which for people who actually uses those things on a daily basis would consider absolutely unacceptable. So in the end, if the warranty is worth or not is entirely up to you. The only time the warranty is worth something is, when the system somehow manages to break your mainboard or graphicscard on its own.
I personally fix my own systems if they do something weird and never had any issues with my systems. I never had a system break in the warranty period ever. I even started to buy used hardware because of personal experience. -

If you're in Canada, having to deal with a US-based company for warranty work can be a hassle in terms of getting the machine across borders. Further, how would you acquire a machine from Averatec - they've been out of business since 2012?
You'd be better off buying from someplace that has a Canadian presence. Dell is good for mainstream machines. For boutique, high-performance laptops, contact @woodzstack.
