Hi I was wondering if anyone knew this, as I can't find it anywhere in the manual.

I just bought some Fujifilm 8x DVD-Rs but strangely I am only able to burn them at 1x.. (as opposed to 2.4x with DVD+Rs)

    Thanks

    If I remember correctly the 6130 has a LiteOn 431S slimtype DVD burner capable of burning DVD+R @ 4X, DVD+RW @ 2.4X, DVD-R @ 2X, and DVD-RW @ 2X.

This all means nothing really because the firmware has to support the media and the media has to be of decent quality.

If you get bad media or a media that the firmware doesn’t recognize, the DVD burner will burn the media at a speed it deems is best. This usually means the slowest speed.

Each DVD has a media code built into it, and that’s where the burner will figure out what’s the best and fastest write strategy for the disk. Each DVD manufacturer has there own process of making DVD's, so the quality and makeup of the dyes and materials is different and so you need different writing strategies for different disks. The firmware has instructions on how to burn data onto a particular disk and if it’s out of date it usually won’t be able to write to the newer disks at its highest rated speed.

OK, I wrote more than I should have but to sum it up, the DVD burner, the firmware, and the disk all have to be in sync in order to achieve their maximum performance.

    Hopefully this helped?

    Ya, thanks a ton.

I was wondering why DVD-Rs burned slower compared to DVD+Rs ;)

I don't believe there are any firmware updates for the 431.
