    Hello,
I was wondering what the maximum hard drive capacity, rotational speed and SATA Bus speed one can put in an HEL80 laptop. According to Compal's online specs it only allows for sata150 100GB @ 7200rpm or 120 @ 5400rpm. However, I have seen a few onliine retailers that allow you to configure the notebook with much higher capacities and speeds then that outlined by Compal.
Anyways, I'm looking to upgrade my sata150 60gb 5400rpm to a "faster" and more current sataII 3.0gb/s drive. Let me know if anyone has tried or knows of the HD limitations on this notebook and whether I need to flash to the most current BIOS to make the upgrade.

    Thanks :)

Hard drives are hard drives, you dont need bio upgrade. As long as it is SATA then your fine.

Just wanted to thank you guys for replying. I thought it was a bit odd that Compal would have such a low hard drive capacity limit as stated in the online specs of the HEL80.

Anyways, I'd like to order a new hard drive soon... probably a >160GB, 7200rpm... any recommendations on where to buy from? Newegg seems to have some decent deals.

    Thanks

Get the upwards of your post mentioned seagate ... i've got the 120gb edition of the momentus 7200.2 and what should i say ... IT ROCKS!
i think, its between 20 and 30 % faster than the samsung@5k4 rpm, i had previously.

I use the Hitachi 7k200 in an EL80 - and it works great. Same low noice levels as some 3 other 2.5" SATA HD's Ive used over the last several months.
