I just got the aforementioned notebook but I am having trouble connecting to a wireless network. It's like the notebook isn't even wireless at all. The wireless router works fine with my desktop PC. In the network connections for the notebook it shows PRISM 802.11g wireless connection but it won't detect my wireless network, even if the notebook is 10 feet from the router. The guy at Future Shop said it was wireless and he even included the wireless router in with it. I run XP home sp2 in case anyone wants to know. It uses a Celeron M processor as well. Is this notebook actually wireless or do I have to get a wireless card for it?

This maybe a stupid question...but have you turned the wireless adaptor on? there should be a button beside the power button. When you press the button, the wireless indicator light should lite up on the front.

Please provied more information on the problem...the exact symptoms. I've had lots of problems with wireless connections and believe i've found solutions to many problems. My wireless problem was with the compaq V2140 using SP2. I also had a Medion SIM2000; however i was using SP1 and i had absolutely NO problem with the wireless connection.

Hey Maytag you just might have something there, that's probably it, LOL. I didn't know there was a button you had to push to turn wireless on. Well I can't check that out right now because my sister took it to Japan for a month so I'll have to get back to you, but ya that's probably it. I'll give you thanks in advance because like I said I can't check that yet.[8D]

I was just wondering where you bought the medion sim2000 from, as I am struggling to find many, if any at all, places to buy this particular laptop from.

I bought my SIM2000 off e-bay, it was refurbed but just like new.
I have since seen one in in Curry's (Banbury)
My only criticism is the short battery life, only about 45 minutes.
I also had problems with the wireless connection, until we found the button that enables it (just to the right of the power switch). Presumably a new unit would come with a manual that might explain these things. I tried to find one on the Medion web-site, no luck. It seems Medion do not provide much in the way of customer support for this model. My unit was advertised as including a second battery, but it was not in the package and after 3 months I am still waiting for my back ordered spare to arrive.

Press Fn+F1 and that is it ! It took me days to figure it out.

Why they don't just let the WiFi on by default ?

    Hi all

I gave just bought a SIM2000 (MD95263) in the UK.

Can I get the Wireless to work, can I h**l.

Yes I've tried pushing the button next to the power, nothing happens, the WLAN never lights up.

Is there anyway I can confirm WLAN is in the notebook and able to run (it does mention it in the book).

    Any help welcome

    Richard

I'm having the exact same problem with mine. I bought it from Staples. I've tried the FN+F1 and the Wifi HotKey next to the power button. Neither work.
The hotkey does display a graphic saying "wifi disabled" however the manual states this button toggles wifi.

    Any ideas welcome. thanks.

You will see it listed as a connection in network settings, along with your modem and Ethernet connection.

I got mine from Staples as well GusNor, you seem to get more than me though,
pushing the hotkey does nothing on mine, and pushing FN + F1 just brings up "Windows Help and support center"

In Control Panel > Network connection all I have listed is

    1394 Connection (1394 Net adaptor)
Local Area Connection (SiS 900 based PCI Fast Ethernet Adaptor)

I begining to wonder if this notebook ships with Wi-Fi, as it says nothing about it on the spec's listen on the side of the box, and the instruction book lists WLAN as "optional" on more than one occasion (suggesting to me it's not on all the notebooks)

I have contacted Medion support via e-mail, and they replied with the follwoing

I'll give them a call in the next few days and see what they say.
