Take a look at this site:

This is a great deal for anyone who needs a notebook just for light jobs.

150$ is very cheap! The specs are a bit slow, of course.
-
I just noticed that... it is a scam for sure... you are better of getting a laptop from:
www.anuslaptops.com -
heh...no.
No I checked them out. They don't have to pay an arm and a leg to Microsoft for certification or licenses and are using older hardware. I think the specs are great for someone who only needs a notebook to check email, surf the web, check stocks, post on message boards.
This is what they need to give the kids in school instead of those 500 dollar dells that they break so easily. -
I saw this laptop on Crave.com this morning. Nice laptop for a kid. $150.00. You can upgrade the memory to 1 gig, and upgrade the Hard drive later if need. Nice laptop.
-
A lot of news sites are reporting on this. I dont think its a scam.
-
Lengthy discussion at engadget.com over whether this is real or a scam:
http://www.engadget.com/2007/07/25/medison-celebrity-150-of-linux-laptop-for-the-people/ -
For the price, it would make a good machine to put the version of Linux you like on it. I might consider one to put Ubuntu Linux on it. Would be the perfect fit.
-
its a scam
-
It's way too good to be true. Just add up the cost of all the parts. Guessing 90 for the screen, 60 for the battery, oops just hit 150. Hmm. Plus apparently their pics were stolen from another site...
And Windows usually costs around $70 for OEMs so that isn't why laptops are expensive. -
Engadget reports now that the guys in Sweden have received so many orders that they are saying you'll "get your laptop in 3 months" or get your money back. Sounds to me like they'll take your money and run for a few months, reap some interest, and return the cash back.
-
One of the editors of Crave (Cnet's blog site) ordered one. I might have done so if it was using DDR2 memory, since then I could just put my extra RAM to use and stick Linux onto it and be done. Its using DDR though, so I won't.
-
Also concerned that it might be a scam. Three months is a long time to wait for a laptop. Especially with those kind of specs... hmmm "FISHY"
-
Since it is only $150.00, I ordered one. Will be able to tell you the results in the 4 to 6 weeks, it takes to ship. It might even get here before my T61 I ordered on 07/20, with a ESD of 08/22.
See which one gets here first and has the better quality build.
BTW, ordered with a credit card. So, am protected in case I do no get the laptop. I will put Ubuntu linux on it. May run it as a server. -
I will hopefully review this notebook...so stay tuned. -
Same here Gautam, used a credit card. So, not to worried about getting ripped off. Now, if it was debit card or bank transfer, I would have waited. I ordered on the 28th of July. So hopefully I will get one of the first ones off the assembly line. At least it not made in China like the T61s
-
why don't you just go to bbb.org. thats the easiest way to find out. or whois.net. if its not listed then you know its more than likely a scam. just check it out.
-
-
coudn't find any reports at bbb.org or whois.net..you could ask bbb.com to compile a report for you butit will take a lil while. its best to stay away in that case. Unless someone else knows something i dont
-
It is a company in Sweeden. The company 2checkout.com is legit. I have placed orders through them before.
-
oh yea it is overseas..well then what overseas company would be similar to the bbb?
-
call me crazy..but the pictures of that laptop on their site looks photo edited. I do a LOT of photo editing and thats what it looks like. Tell me if anyone gets thier lappys..though? it would be nice to finally know whether its actually legit or not.
-
The first set of pictures they had were confirmed ripoffs of another site. Now they have another set of pictures, that look different, and suspicious if you look at the pictures' metadata.
-
Yeah, the new photos look doctored. But I guess we will see. For $150.00, the risk is not that great, especially using a Credit Card to purchase. Check with my CC bank, and there is no hit against the card so far.
-
Well, email 2C.com and cancel my order for the $150.00 laptop. They issued a refund, although my CC has not been CHARGED.  Mostly concerned about the shipping issue. If it turns out to be legit, I will reorder. Just want to make sure.
-
Looked today and the website is gone.
-
Glad I cancel on 08/08/07
-
Website is still there 9/18/2007
http://www.medisoncelebrity.com/product.html -
Yep the site is back up now. I didn't cancel my order because my credit card will not be charged until it is shipped. Nothing to lose by waiting.
