I think it hangs if your firmware is older than 113, so upgrade that and it should work.

Are these memory pieces replacements for what you originally had, or are you just building it for the first time?

They should work fine, just make sure you are connecting them the right way. Also, it's perhaps too late to say this, but make sure you are well grounded while handling them, these memories are incredibly frail, they can break for nothing, it has happened to me.

Make sure they are fully inserted into the socket and the clips on the sides are securing them down.

Are you saying the memories were defected?

AHCI is necessary to communicate with your HDD, so if you disable it how are you expecting to install the 64 OS in it?

Then disable it and carry on with the installation and see what happens, you can always enable it after.

??????? AHCI enabled and Vista installtion should work just fine.
When installing windows XP you must disable AHCI to get it to work.
For some reason I don't get it, when you enable AHCI and install Vista it must detect you HDD or are you using a beta version.
Which BIOS version do you have, you must need at least version 1.12 or up.
I advise you to use version 1.16 and then install Vista with AHCI enabled.

??????????????????????????????????????? for the first time I am lost.
Install Vista when AHCI is disabled you performance will go down.
But okay it's not my notebook and not my vista.

No, you don't understand, it seems that vista is not letting him to continue with the installation process because AHCI is enable. That's why I said try it w/o it and see what happens. I agree with you that this is more an XP issue, and not for vista, but we are just commenting on what he is telling us that he is experiencing.

Correct, but for my brains it's not clear.
I installed more then 2 Compal notebooks in the XFL9X sereis and all needed to have AHCI enabled for Vista to run correct.

Same here, I have heard many people complaining about AHCI not letting them to install their OS's, but I have never gotten such a problem.
