To put it simply, most retailers simply sell their service, the items purchased are just the medium to get the service sold...
Putting this into perspective using Powernotebooks (Donald, please let me know if I need to edit or remove this for any reason)... The service they sell is the finding of what they deem quality items that they are capable of working a market for, advising and informing customers of what they offer (I can tell you right now that PNB knows more about their products then any big name vendor I've come across just from Donalds help on this forum, and I also know they use a digital scale to put real weights on system specs since manufacturers normally skew the truth), and finally the follow-up services after a sale, such as getting your system returned quickly after a fix, or providing solutions over the phone what that 24hour line (which in PNB's case, is real english speaking humans, not machines or outsourced). Each of these steps requires time with either vendors, or consumers, it can also require buying sample items that they can work with to see if they like it for adding to their inventory, or travel to trade shows (some of those have horrible participation fee's). PNB also does little extras like following this forum and helping where they can, they take time from their days to help address common issues, such as Donald's very helpful overclocking information. They didn't have to do this, but for whatever reason they did... Not only that, but they will still value your warranty if you follow the suggestions they offer. The entire overclocking situation is above and beyond the norm.
As for milestone, I've read good things on here about them, I've also seen them participate some with threads (helpful replies and direction), and provide case badges with free shipping to those posting on here wanting them. I also know they have been very responsive in fixing a few bugs on their site from feedback from this forum, and I believe they were even forced to defend themselves publicly on here from a customer that from what I saw skewed facts and wasn't being realistic... (I think that whole situation was handled best it could be on their part, and very poorly on the consumers part)
Anyways.. this ends my little rant... and I encourage anyone in college or heading that way take at-least one good business and one good micro economics class to better understand how the retail world works -
thanks for the novel
but i can see where your coming from. Maybe ill just have to buy it full price now. (unless i catch a sale

If you want purchases to be lower priced from a vendor that carries items you like, this is the best way...
Try to support their sales by pointing friends, family, co-workers... or leave your 2 cents on the http://www.resellerratings.com (or other similar site), or write up an honest review of the product (or add to others reviews) to encourage others to give their product a try.
One of the biggest draw backs to not being an industry giant is that you don't get to roll around in pallets of inventory (meaning you can't get the better prices all the time since your volume is lower). I know the Intel Channel Partner Premier Logo on PNB's site isn't just handed out if you get in line, it requires some conformity with Intel's guidelines (not always easy or realistic), as well as a retained volume of sales if I remember correctly...
taken from: http://www.intel.com/cd/channel/reseller/asmo-na/eng/36152.htm
"These experts are exclusively recognized and validated as Preferred Members who will help you make the most of Intel products and technology."
("the most of Intel Products and Technology" mainly refers to Centrino Compliance for PNB, since certain hardware must be used together to comply, and by certain, I don't necessarily mean best, or cheapest...)
Ah hah! I bet you thought that Centrino sticker was just on there because you had an Intel chip?!
I also know that part of getting volume prices good is your ability to network with these large companies... Again, using Intel as an example, I know certain channels we take losses on items just to say "they bought us instead of AMD". Unfortunately, and realistically, that means someone else is paying for it..
Another long story short, use the power of 'word of mouth' when you are happy with your purchase. Also try to remove your emotion when finding faults with a purchase, so that the true issue is easily seen. While posting problems may make you feel better, it doesn't help the company better themselves (and if they aren't interested in growing better, they will die with or without your complaint). It really will come back to help you and others down the road. -

Yes... I realize that its new years eve and I have nothing better to do then this.. =P

Now, lets say that they start getting thier fry's from the distribution center regularily for half cost, they can charge 25% less for a small fry, and still increase sales by 20%... These are way out there figures, but it should get the point across... -
well i hope their business jumps quickly right now
pyro, another question i got for you, i notice in your signature you run ubuntu, how does that run on it? have you had many problems with it? -
( I think pitabred has posted a bit on his experiences )
Basically, everything worked, and worked well from the get go for both 6.06 and 6.10 of Ubuntu, also used a few other liveCD's that worked great... No problem with 3D accelerated video drivers either (Thinks like compiz work great if that is your thing). I think I had a bit of fiddling to get my preference for wireless management software going, but the default stuff was fine from the start.
Only exceptions: Webcam looks like it will work if you futz around with it, but I've not really got a need.. Fingerprint scanner looks like someone needs to write a driver or a driver wrapper for it..
