Has anyone tried this out before? A while back it looked intriguing, but what was available on the market looked too slow.

Super Talent has some pretty fast looking ones: http://www.supertalent.com/products/ssd_category_detail.php?type=Netbook

The SLC one is rated at 170mb/s seq read and 150mb/s seq write. I heard the controller chip has stuttering issues though. Still, that is way faster than any notebook hard drive. OCZ has one that is rated at 110mb/s seq read and 50mb/s seq write that does not have stuttering issues.

I was thinking of using this for the OS and everyday apps, but I read the random access speeds are really poor on these. In that case, it would be better to use these to load games like WoW. Some may say it is better to just get a 2.5" SSD, but then your losing your large hard drive storage. Anyone have any thoughts or experiences on this?

I was looking into this as well. But I found that the 170MB/s Read speed is only available for the 32GB model... Also is very pricy... more than 200 USD last time I've checked. At this price, you would be better off buying a 256 GB SSD.

MiniPCIe by itself doesn't support storage devices so no SSD will work via that connector. Only a few netbooks have an I/O controller connected to the miniPCIe slot. Samsung is supposed to release a miniPCIe SSD w/ built-in I/O controller but I don't think it is available yet.
