I'm posting this here rather than in the gaming section because my question is in regard to the whitebook.
Anyways, has anyone played this on theirs? I am getting horrible performance and from what I read in a thread in the gaming section I should probably be able to play this maxed out. I have Physx off, everything on Medium, no AA, and am running in 1280x1024 (with black bars across top and bottom) and am getting probably around 30FPS which is definitely not what I should be getting.
Any thoughts?

which driver?
-
Well, from what I hear, it doesn't play well with ATi cards or ATi GPU solutions with multiple cores (edit: Basically I mean any X2 cards or cards in Crossfire; nVidia cards play it fine):

For now, try disabling Catalyst A.I in the CCC and see if there is any effect on performance. -
Yea..some guy with 4870 crossfire was complaining that it was a slide show @ 1920.1200 - So.. maybe 9.1 will fix that too! Guess with the holidays, ATI is slacking on a driver release.
-
NVidia...the way it's meant to be played....NUTS! Come on, developers, give ATI some love!
-
Well, ATi has to start what they did earlier in the decade and start working closely with developers, like nVidia does currently. I remember back in the day when it was pretty much even between nVidia and ATi in terms of market share, but ATi cards were doing slightly better at one point when Half Life 2 came out. Apparently, ATi and Valve were in close contact when developing the game, resulting in ATi being advertised in the opening (kinda like what's going on with some games and nVidia's TWIMTBP logo).
-
NVIDIA is killing ATI in market share..the heat issues from NVIDIA "packaging" and ATI having the timing to release some high-end cards is the only reason that ATI isn't out of the competition. But, time will tell.. Can ATI really step up and provide something to compete with PhysX? Can ATI assist in developing games tailored to their cards? Can ATI provide better mobile support like NVIDIA? Can ATI continue to unlock potential, before everyone throws their hands up and gives up on them? In the next 12 months, these questions will be answered.

dondadah88 Notebook Nobel Laureate
Yeah you're asking way to much questions. lol. but ati can do it. look when nvidia came out with the gtx280 or something like that and overpriced it. ati came beat them with the 4870 and came out with lower prices. nvidua had to lower there prices. and now we are going to have them in our notebooks. just underclocked. everything them same. ati just doesnt have as much "support" as nvidia. so we have to wait for there drivers.
I guess physx was a great buy for nvidia but ati will come back. with what i dont know. but dont give up on them unless nvidia is going to kill us with there 1000 dollar gpu with crap features.
But to the OP, disable CF and what are your numbers. -
Dang..wish this download would finish! I wanna play some Mirror's Edge
How you like it Luthi?
-
The game is quite abit of fun and something different then your run of the mill shooter . I beat it on the 360 and then bought it for the PC the other day as the PC devs need all the support they can get to keep making good games for our platform . Ive bought way to many PC games over the past few months actually
.

Gotta give those NVIDIA cards a good workout
Yeah.. I've picked up about 10 different games in the past couple months.. Spore, COD4, Fallout3, Both Crysis, etc. I'm looking forward to FEAR 2
-
It was pretty entertaining and was certainly not your run of the mill game. My only complaint was that it was rather short and ends rather abruptly. It was a fun game to play though.
As far as turning the Catalyst A.I. it did seem to help a lot. What is the A.I. thing anyways? -

Is it really this much difference between without vs. with PhysX?
I would think the banners as well as other things should still exist without PhysX, just it would be more stiff or static.
So do you think this review overly turned off graphics options? Or are they really missing when PhysX isn’t enabled? -
-
Luthi, did you try the patch with physx enabled? And yes, disabled you lose some of the additional features that offer a more enveloping experience.
-
i have not played it without physx on my PC yet but so far i really doubt your missing out on much TBH with out it . If buildings were crumbling all around then i would say your missing out, but a couple flags waving in the wind or breaking glass that reacts more like breaking glass does in RL is not what i call showcasing the hardware by any stretch of the imagination.
-
Agreed Quad.
Luthi, AI is enhanced driver side tweaks. Games performance can vary depending on which setting you choose - Basic, Advanced, or Off. Just you around with it on different games and you'll see -
ok... ME is a sweet game.. been playin for a half hour. Nice
Only one thing.. PhysX kills it!
Anyhow.. off to bed.

Now, using SLI I can run it at WUXGA, all high details and 2xAA smoooth
