    Hey guys.

    First thing : My DVD

I have a problem with my 6214w. When I boot it, my DVD drive is recognized in bios without any problem, once WinXP is loaded it's a whole different story :
In WinXP, My Computer and Explorer don't see the DVD drive (Sony slot-in), they only see my C: drive (HDD).... However I have no problem whatsoever loading or ejecting a cd or dvd.

I found a semi-way to fix the problem. Go in system and do this :

I click on 'search for system modifications' or something similar to that. (the
highlighted icon up top. And it detects my DVD drive. After that it works. But I'd like to be able to avoid doing this EVERY time I boot... Any suggestions ??

Second thing : the touchpad. Solved

Is it normal that I can't click anything other than with the left button ??
I mean, with every laptop I used I could select something or start a program by simply tapping once or twice the directionnal part of the touchpad without having to use the left touchpad button. I don't know if I'm very clear...

    Thanks guys.

not sure about the optical drive bit but you should be able to click by tapping the touch pad. Give zepto a call.

    Part one:

Since i updated the BIOS on my 6214 i have exactly the same problem as this. No idea how to fix it, but I'll be watching this thread. I use the same work around.

    Part two:

Check the drivers for the touchpad. It is very configurable and you may find that the tap to click is switched off for some reason, or the strength of tap is too high.

Ok I found I fixed the touchpad problem !

You were right Rubber, there was a tapping option in the synaptics drivers that was disabled. It's fine now. Thanks a lot !

Now I only need to get the DVD problem solved ;)

I had the dvd-drive problem after I upgraded the bios, but after going into the device manager and doing something I don't remember, XP knows it's there.

    Was that helpful? :)

if you start it with a cd it is fine... this is a stupid workaround but also i think bios 112 sorts this out... (from reading the thread on it, not tested myself yet)

Try right clicking on the cd drive and deleting it from device manager.

Then restart the computer, it will detect the drive as if it was new (hopefully) and should work via plug and play drivers.
