Got one of the first sexy new 4265's at Staples and reported on it in the other thread. The only problem I had was the heat and I got that under control. I absolutely love this laptop. Best I've ever had - and certainly the most fun one I have ever had.
BUT - and here is where the tears should start flowing. Pursuant to Averatec's advertised specs and the user manual, I ordered a memory chip upgrade. It arrived and I proceeded to take the bottom cover off per the manual.
Well there is a problem. After I removed all the screws I noticed one side of the cover (there is only one removable cover on the bottom - unlike the 3360)was sealed and there was a sticker that ominously read "VOID IF TAMPERED". Well I did not tamper.
Instead I sent an e-mail to Averatec customer service. No response for several days.
So I call customer support. Got a very nice gentleman who spoke perfect English. However, he was totally baffled. All he could tell me was that if I removed the cover I would void the warranty.
All I could tell him was that I was already half way out the door on my way to Staples to return it. Guess I'll start looking at the VAIO's for a 13.3 bright screen.
Woe is me!

It won't void the warranty. If you look at the sticky topic labeled Averatec Warranty it's says it's ok to change your memory. If you you have to send it in for repairs they want you to put it back to the factory settings, that's probably what the guy means. Just as long as your careful when removing the back you should be ok.

How did you get the heat under control?

and also...how are you able to stand using the touchpad? isn't it quite annoying because it sucks and is erratic? or did you get a good one? any feedback would be awesome
thanx -

I wonder if the little problems here and there with these new series is the reason they delayed the release of the Turion 64 based 4100 series notebooks by 2 months. It is now to become available in July according to Averatec.

There's a happy ending to this sad tale. I received the following e-mail from Averatec:
"In case like this, go ahead and look under the sticker for the other screw. If you ever need a warranty repair we would do a damage inspection. Only if internal damage were found would there be a problem."
So, the missing 7th screw was under the sticker, and it was that screw that was preventing removal of the lid. I took out the seventh screw and it took about a minute to replace the memory.
I get to keep the 4200 and I couldn't be happier. I highly recommend it.
