Hello, my Cyberpower NBLB2 crapped out the other night. It appeared that the HDD died, as the computer can't find it during boot up. It displayed a message of something along the lines of "Check cable, no boot device detected." So, I went to Fry's and got a new HDD and plugged it in, only to get the same error. The issue must be on the motherboard side then. My question is, is it worth it going to the extreme hassle of disassembling the entire laptop to check out the motherboard, or should I just go ahead and send this back to Cyberpower for a warranty repair?

This message must not origin from a defective HDD - it can, but there are a lot more possible reasons - messed up boot order, messed up master boot record etc.

First, check the boot order in BIOS - your HDD should be first.

Second, get any bootable CD (like e.g. Ubuntu Linux or similar) and boot from that - with you HDD in the bay. See if you can access it.

3rd: just inserting a new HDD will always give you that "error" message - with nothing on the drive, you can't boot properly, of course.

You did not mention that you tried to fix the disc or the MBR or did reinstall anything, so I assume you did not - getting a new HDD is the wrong choice then - might be something easy to fix ...

    Just report back.

    Good luck
