The correct model name is the Compal JHL90...
The new Turbo Memory 2.0, when coupled with Vista SP1 is touted to be much better than the original Turbo Memory.

-
JHL90? Is this Montevina?
-
Donald@Paladin44 Retired
Yes, but this model will only support DDR2 667 or 800MHz system memory and will have 512MB GDDR2 for the video card.
-
I see, as you know, I'm waiting for the one supporting DDR3 and with a very fast CPU and FSB.
-
JHL90 - with GF9600M GT
JHL91 - with Intel GMA X4500
JHT00 - with GeForce 9300M GS
JHT01 - with Intel GMA X4500

But we are waiting for 9600M GT - that's the power of Compal
-
This 9600M GT is going to have GDDR2, which isn't all that great for performance. There will be GDDR3 cars in other laptops.
-

what r the notebooks that have GDDR3? -
-
INEEDMONEY Homicidal Teddy Bear
Bah, that sucks. Looks like a Dell will be in my future unless the Asus gets better battery life.
-
Powernotebooks will certainly offer DDR3 in their laptops, right Donald?
-
Donald@Paladin44 Retired
I can only offer what Compal provides. The current specs for the new series call for DDR2 system memory and GDDR2 video memory.
-
Good news. There will be working drivers for XP. Not official, but working (info from polish reseller Karen Notebooks).
-
-
Thats a good point xD But there is a problem - the XP drivers will be added to "Karen" notebooks only, not for example to "Reset" notebooks...And to tell the truth - the prices of Karen notebooks are high... -
Donald@Paladin44 Retired
Our information is Compal is currently working on the XP drivers and hopes to be able to deliver them at the Montevina launch on July 15th.
So, we remain uncertain at this time whether their "hope" will be fulfilled. -
Donald@Paladin44 Retired
Let's wait until the final release date to see exactly what the specifications are at that time. I just gave you the specs as they exist today. -
May be the final spec will support the DDR3, BTW, what is this G before the DDR?
-
Donald@Paladin44 Retired
GDDR is graphics memory as opposed to system memory
-
INEEDMONEY Homicidal Teddy Bear
Well is there any really chance they'll go from GDDR2 to 3? -
Donald@Paladin44 Retired
A chance yes, but sadly not a very likely one
-
Paladdin is the King of the OEM's but he cannot talk on behalf of the vendors
Oh, I think he can, sorry
+rep -
INEEDMONEY Homicidal Teddy Bear
Well I might still go with it. Not going to Dell and its still a big improvement over my current notebook -
It will be just the same as with IFL90/JFL92, those had only GDDR2, when other notebooks from Dell, Asus etc. had GDDR3. Compal is cheap and that's why it has only GDDR2
-
INEEDMONEY Homicidal Teddy Bear
I enjoy the customer service from powernotebooks and always had a problem dealing with Dell for my stepmom.
If the next Asus has a decent battery life (~2.5hrs) i'll consider that, but if not then it's going to be the Compal -
For now the final is having GDDR2 and XP support is still unclear, powerfull resources can always be wrong.
-
I think the current dual core CPU and FSB can handle GDDR3 RAM, can't they? -
Donald@Paladin44 Retired
You would have to ask Compal those questions about why they are not using GDDR3...it is possible, they have just chosen not to so that they can keep the price down.
-
I know I can ask them, I actually I sent them an e-mail last year and I'm still waiting for their answer
Ok, I won't push it anymore, is no, is no. -
INEEDMONEY Homicidal Teddy Bear
Maybe we can send personal emails asking for GDDR3 just for us, Wireless
-
Count me in, let's spam the compal site, I think we can certainly do it
-
Great news, Compal will have magnesium case!
-
INEEDMONEY Homicidal Teddy Bear
Ahh I was reading Family Guy quotes and I just imagined spaming Compal's website about GDDR3 and one day a Compal representative came to my house and threw a laptop at my head knocking me unconscious in a Family Guy manner and then saying "here's your freakin GDDR3" and then leaves.
-
Lol, very vivid imagination indeed, perhaps we could pass the question to Compal through Paladdin, he is a retail specialist with a reputation beyond understanding

Man I'm so bummed about the lack of DDR3 (allegedly). If they use DDR3 along with a good price, that magnesium case might sway me to this compal rather than the m860tu.

Here are some specs....

P.S.: Sorry, I already had created a new thread
Re-Edit : That's old news... i'm sorry. -
It doesn't open your link.

I got it now, it comes from an Italian web site, cool, gracie!

Here are the specs from Compal-Bizcom.

I missed this post, but maybe I can post the link here to my own.

I wanted to order the BTO 15W27, but need some ensurance my T8300 will fit (or not...). The Intel website doesn't give a single search result on either Centrino 2 or Montevina. I've gotten a mail which says no it won't fit, but also have a lot of sites who say yes it will...
There is no problem in me waiting 3 weeks normally, but my S37S is slowly dying and really needs to be replaced asap. If I know beforehand it won't work I'll order the BTO 15W26 instead.
Ontopic - Love the new design actually, better then de FL90 (imo). The HDMI port is also an extra. I'm especially interested in the performance of the nVidia 9600M GT. -
it depends if it has the new socket or not
-
Both are socket P.
At least, that's what Compal's site mentions. The T8300 is socket P aswell. -
Great service by BTO.
I just called, and they are going to test it on there sample.
I'll know for sure in about 3-4 hours. -
@ MarcelV
The Pernyn is tested and working, T8XXX & T9XXX.
Other CPU models like the T5XXX will be tested.
Like i informed you on the phone the CPU is working fine. -
Why are you testing an old CPU (T5XXX)?
-
Senor Mortgage Notebook Evangelist
Hmm though Im 99% sure its the latter, does this come with an LED or LCD screen
