The correct model name is the Compal JHL90...

The new Turbo Memory 2.0, when coupled with Vista SP1 is touted to be much better than the original Turbo Memory.

Yes, but this model will only support DDR2 667 or 800MHz system memory and will have 512MB GDDR2 for the video card.

I see, as you know, I'm waiting for the one supporting DDR3 and with a very fast CPU and FSB.

This 9600M GT is going to have GDDR2, which isn't all that great for performance. There will be GDDR3 cars in other laptops.

It's the same as with Santa Rosa platform. GDDR3 probably will be in Asus gaming notebooks, MacBook Pro 15'' and new Dell XPS.

I can only offer what Compal provides. The current specs for the new series call for DDR2 system memory and GDDR2 video memory.

But help me out here, if DELL laptops are Compal based, why can't Compal offer DDR3 for all OEM's?

Thats a good point xD But there is a problem - the XP drivers will be added to "Karen" notebooks only, not for example to "Reset" notebooks...And to tell the truth - the prices of Karen notebooks are high...

Our information is Compal is currently working on the XP drivers and hopes to be able to deliver them at the Montevina launch on July 15th.

So, we remain uncertain at this time whether their "hope" will be fulfilled.

It all depends on each model's specifications.

Let's wait until the final release date to see exactly what the specifications are at that time. I just gave you the specs as they exist today.

It will be just the same as with IFL90/JFL92, those had only GDDR2, when other notebooks from Dell, Asus etc. had GDDR3. Compal is cheap and that's why it has only GDDR2 :)

I enjoy the customer service from powernotebooks and always had a problem dealing with Dell for my stepmom.

If the next Asus has a decent battery life (~2.5hrs) i'll consider that, but if not then it's going to be the Compal

Why not GDDR3, wouldn't the laptop be faster and therefore more performant? The GDDR3 are much more expensive?

I think the current dual core CPU and FSB can handle GDDR3 RAM, can't they?

You would have to ask Compal those questions about why they are not using GDDR3...it is possible, they have just chosen not to so that they can keep the price down.

Ahh I was reading Family Guy quotes and I just imagined spaming Compal's website about GDDR3 and one day a Compal representative came to my house and threw a laptop at my head knocking me unconscious in a Family Guy manner and then saying "here's your freakin GDDR3" and then leaves.

Man I'm so bummed about the lack of DDR3 (allegedly). If they use DDR3 along with a good price, that magnesium case might sway me to this compal rather than the m860tu.

I missed this post, but maybe I can post the link here to my own.

    http://forum.notebookreview.com/showthread.php?t=264739

I wanted to order the BTO 15W27, but need some ensurance my T8300 will fit (or not...). The Intel website doesn't give a single search result on either Centrino 2 or Montevina. I've gotten a mail which says no it won't fit, but also have a lot of sites who say yes it will...

There is no problem in me waiting 3 weeks normally, but my S37S is slowly dying and really needs to be replaced asap. If I know beforehand it won't work I'll order the BTO 15W26 instead.

Ontopic - Love the new design actually, better then de FL90 (imo). The HDMI port is also an extra. I'm especially interested in the performance of the nVidia 9600M GT.

    Both are socket P.

At least, that's what Compal's site mentions. The T8300 is socket P aswell.

Other CPU models like the T5XXX will be tested.
