oooo juicy... did it require bios flash?
how does this thing do in super pi? -
Justin@XoticPC Company Representative
My eyes lit up like a kid in a candy store when it arrived
The CPU literally came in 24 hours ago, Trying to do some more tests, but we have whole row of machines we are testing this in. We are using the bios version 104B (which was updated before the CPU swap).

Very nice . . . Intel keeps raising the bar.
Just a request, but if you could run 3DMark06 and post that - I'm interested to see what the CPU score is.

Will try to get the 3D 06 up by tomorrow. The CPU has already moved into a NP5760 and will run both 3D 05 & 06.
-
Very Nice! You might want to set the Power Settings to "Always On" to lock the multiplier at 13x during testing
-

Thanks noobified, i have it set as always on, making a bios change and will re-test.
-
Cool! As much as the kid in me wants to have the newest, I think I will need to get some mileage out of my "new" Core Duo before I even consider the upgrade to Merom.
-
hey justin got a couple questions when will the merom be availble for sell in one of those lappy's and second do ya think it would do ok playing oblivion
(oblivion ? the video side of the laptop of course the cpu will)
edit: i am very interested in an hel80 with the merom -
Justin@XoticPC Company Representative
Pharoah, you will have to look at this post from Chaz, that states the Merom release date has been moved up and they should be available shotly. We will have more extensive tests on the HEL80 and others shortly with the merom.
-
Merom will provide a significant increase in performance and is definitely worth the upgrade. However, those of you purchasing new notebooks now will be better off holding off until a Merom price drop. Hopefully, the possible early release of Merom will pressure the folks at ASUS to release BIOS updates to support the new processors. At least Compal is ready
-
Do you think you could release a DYI thread. I think other people including me would greatly apprecate it. Thanks!

In any event, you can do it yourself...just click on New Thread on the main Compal page. -

I'm definetly going to go ahead and upgrade as soon as I get my tax refund next year! But for now...i'll just have to deal with the Yonah (The Matrix 2 of the processor world).
I asked this in another thread, but didn't receive too much feedback: will the Merom systems offer better battery life? -

I understand. No rush. I rather see the initial benchs first. Thanks

<~~~ Penny Pincher!! :budget:

laptop and penny pincher do not really go hand in hand....maybe one of those 400 buck desktops..but lappy's?
-
INEEDMONEY Homicidal Teddy Bear
Well alot of money for some people is a little for others. It's all relative...
-
heh still..waiting for core duo2 sounds a lot like last year when everyone was waiting for yonah..i was one of them haha
-
INEEDMONEY Homicidal Teddy Bear
I think the Yonahs are fast...i can't wait to see how fast the merom will perform.
I guess everything will just be instant one day...and then...the lappys will be reading our thoughtshaha
-
Wait a minute. I don't want to rain on anyone's, but has anyone looked at the 3dMark05 score of a Hel80 with Yonah inside? Chaz's review shows 3046 on a 2.0. This is a 2.16 and score 3253. You can subtract 100-200 points for the GHz difference. Now 3dMark06 may show a little more difference, but I gotta believe there is not a huge speed increase. I would like to see the PCMark score, that would tell more.

Yeh a little bit, all I did was just stick stuff in it like a video card, ram, and etc. Is it as simple as that? I have as5 on it, will I have to put more on or w/e? Thanks.

BTW, AS5 would need to be re-applied also. -
INEEDMONEY Homicidal Teddy Bear
So Paladin...I don't know if you've answered this in another thread, but would switching out the processor void the powerpro warranty?
-
Donald@Paladin44 Retired
Upgrading the processor does not void your warranty, but if you break anything while doing it, that would not be covered by warranty.
We are offering to upgrade any of our customers with an Intel 945 chipset to the Merom processor for $50 plus the cost of the processor, and this will definitely keep your warranty going for its full term. -
So Donald do we pay for shipping to you guys? and if we have the as5 on there already do we buy that again? Thanks!
-
INEEDMONEY Homicidal Teddy Bear
Yeah me and aznron are on the same page. Does that include free AS5 or do we have to purchase that too?
-
Also when will you guys be shipping out with the new memroms?
-
Justin@XoticPC Company Representative
As soon as they are on the market, we will be shipping. -
Out of curiosity when would that be?
-
Any idea when Merom will come out?
I know that Conroe came out... lets hope Merom is out by August -

Awesome might do the cpu upgrade in a year or so when Vista comes out and stabalizes.

We are not the OEM for Sager nor ASUS Ensemble, so we cannot set their policy. However I am fairly certain Sager will have an upgrade policy once it becomes important, but I doubt ASUS Ensemble's will be upgradeable while under warranty. -

Are test still being ran on the Merom?
-
Donald@Paladin44 Retired
Sure, the Merom is being tested on many different MFR's models.

Sorry for the delay -
Well for those of you who are thinking about ditching their current Core Duos for the new Core 2 Duos, I think I would be willing to purchase your old Core Duos. I am currently just trying to upgrade to a notebook that has a working screen. I was looking to buy a barebones HEL80 and integrate that with the stuff I already have. But if I can get my hands on a used Core Duo, I would be in heaven.
-
INEEDMONEY Homicidal Teddy Bear
Hmm...maybe we can work something out
-
Never mind, my idea of being able to buy a barebones system and integrate my own components will not work so I'd have to buy a new one....Thanks for the offer INEEDMONEY, (oh how true it is, but to quote a famous theologian, "Mo' Money, Mo' Problems")
*Sorry for swinging this thread off topic.
NEW test on HEL80 :)
