    KGB,
when you say "it shuts down within 5-20 mins of gameplay..."
Does your laptop completely shuts down or does it go into BSOD or Blue Screen Of Death? One note, I strongly recommend you getting a laptop cooler :D
My GPU temp goes down like 14 degrees after purchasing one. It also helps cooling your HDD, CPU temp as well.

65 degrees on startup and 85 degrees after two minutes of gaming aren't normal temps for the GPU. Best to keep the GPU under the 80 degrees, although that is almost inpossible on a Sager NP2096 (based on Compal JHL90).

CPU temps are normal I think. Although even at 85 degrees for the GPU it should not be turned off...

Ah sorry guys didn't notice it was about 9600gt. I thought it was about 8600gt and was referring to my temps.

Are you sure? These are normal operating temperatures of the JFL92 with its 8600M GT (confirmed by multiple people). The NP2096 is not very different, so I would expect similar temperatures. In any case, I am almost certain that those temperatures shouldn't cause it to shut down, but there might be a problem if it continues to heat up after the 2 minute are over.

    those temps are fine.

    it might be hardware related.

    do the following tests:
    - RAM: get MemTest86+, burn the ISO onto a CD, and let it autoboot to check for memory errors
    - HDD: START > Accessories > right-click on "Command Prompt" > choose "Run as Administrator" > in command prompt, type: CHKDSK C: /F > then say YES and restart for Windows to look for HDD errors and it will fix them.

Next, I have a feeling it could be power related... like the power brick or the motherboard.

I recommend to contact your vendor about this issue.

65 degrees idle for a 9600M GT is quite hot and something to worry about...85 degrees while gaming is also quite high, mine even goes to 92 degrees after an hour of gaming. Offcourse it should not shutdown at those temps, but they are quite high. For a Sager Np2096 their not strange, but that doesn't mean it is normal. The 9600M GT does not like high temps.

It is normal for this laptop. Yes they are high but for this laptop, and for any Compal with 9600gt and 8600gt, it is normal. Compals are hot. And so are these graphic cards. Especially 8600gt. The difference makes the HDD if hotter than others, ambient temp., cooling pads... Not any graphic card likes high temps but some are by default hotter. And then placed in notebook with a bad cooling system...
