    Hello,

New to posting at the forum here but been lurking for a while and gathering all the great info. I'm in the market to replace my current laptop and saw the review for the P1 MX and it seemed like a really good machine. Just wondering if there was anyone who has been using it and what their thoughts on it were. Any suggestions on similar spec'd machines that I might be overlooking other than the IBM? Looking for approx. 5 lbs, close to 2 ghz, 14 in. screen or bigger, cd/dvd recorder, wireless g, bluetooth, firewire, usb 2, large/fast harddrive, good battery life, Windows 2000 compatible if possible.

On a different topic, where can you buy internal notebook dvd drives?

    Thanks,
    Ho'okani

    Hey ho'okani,

i've been using an MX for the past month or so. Ivan over at P1 told me it was his favorite unit in the "thin-and-light" category. I took his word for it, and the MX has not disappointed in anyway whatsoever. Just like the review on digitalreviews.net stated, the screen is amazing. I was partial towards fujitsu’s crystalview screens. Ivan told me the MX has the best non-glare sxga screen he’s seen, and he was right. Everything is just so crisp and bright on the screen, and I’ve always liked sxga resolution on 14” screens. Actual performance on the unit is GREAT. I do a lot of data work at my job, and my unit with 1.8 (Dothan), 1 Gig ram, and 60GB 7200 rpm harddrive BLOWS AWAY my desktop that has 2gigs of ram and a 2.4Ghz P4. Lookswise, I like the MX for its clean lines, and simple but sophisticated appearance. In terms of build quality, as soon as I took the unit out of its box, I could tell it was ROCK SOLID and will last for years. Hope this helps. If you have any specific questions, shoot away!

PS...besides the P1 MX, i was also looking at comparable fujitsu laptops (either the S6231 with 13.3" screen or the S7010 with 14.1" screen). unfortunately, the S7010 doesn't come in CrystalView with SXGA resolution. you can only get a 14.1 XGA with Crystview or a 14.1 SXGA with non-Crystalview.
