Hey there, first off apologies for the long post.
I received my 6224 last week, and kudos to Zepto for the fabulous ordering process, configurability and progress updates while I was waiting - simply the best customer service I've ever encountered.![]()
I've done the whole alienware/sager/evesham/Vaio thing and the 6224 is exactly what I wanted in terms of power and size - its unique!
After updating all drivers to those posted on zepto's ftp, I am still learning - and lets face it, the 6224 is a tweaker's paradise![]()
So...here are my querys:
- Keyboard: UK keyboard, and location set in Vista x86 to UK with UK keyboard, as it should be. But key binds in WoW and Ventrilo don't seem to register the correct keys! Specifically it thinks # is a ] and a ] is a [ and a [ just makes a beep noise like it doesn't exist. Doesn't like the ' key either. Very weird - what am I missing?
- Turbo Memory controller: turbo mem driver and storage manager installed as per zepto ftp. Verfified as per intel website instructions - all present and correct in device manager. However, System Properties is only seeing 512MB. In the Turbo Memory GUI, it reads as 1GB with Readyboost ENABLED and Readydrive DISABLED. Is this correct? Normal for 6224? This is my first Turbo mem system...
- Bios: Currently Z14005. I see there is a Z14005e but does the 'e' part show in the version number in system properties or bios screen? I'm not feeling there is a problem, so not inclined to update just yet...why fix what ain't broke?
- Graphics: Driver from Zepto ftp V7.15.11.5654. I'm getting around 40fps in WoW and that's good enough for me at present, am avoiding 3DMark and the like for a few months until I am sure everything is stable. But again, any thing I am missing from a newer version?
And just some general observations on temps:
During general surfing/email I seem to get around 45c core temp and 65c GPU temp - does this seem about right? After a couple of hours of WoW I get 75c core and 92c GPU...still ok?
I am using Rivatuner for GPU temp and NHC for the rest - which makes me want to ask one more question:
THe bios suggests three thermal zones. NHC finds three thermal zones:
TZ00 - is this like mainboard temp? Around 50c idle/80c load
TZ01 - I guess this is GPU? 65c idle/92c load
TZ02 - Not getting any reading here! ALways 0c. Think it might be HDD, as NHC doesn't recognise any HDD temp. Or what else? Any app that readds HDD temp on the 6224?
(I should add that Core0 and Core1 are monitored separately).
OK - after all of that I should say once again, I am extremely pleased with this beast. The above are just 'niggles' and certainly my mum would never notice them![]()
Any help gratefully received.

Get rivatuner, enable SMART and download C2D-plugin, you get both processor temps, gpu temp and clocks and hdd temp.
About you graphics driver, get rid of the one you have as fast as possible and dload the newest driver from http://www.laptopvideo2go.com/forums as soon as they get online.
Also, NHC isnt fully compatible with the hardware you have. -
1. Not sure about that, seems strange. Have you tried out those keys on notepad and other programs to see if they are working? (I presume they are since you typed them in this post
)
2. Sorry not sure about turbo mem either as I dont have it.
3. My bios is Z14005e and I am very sure that it shows the 'e' at the end. Maybe there is a known bug in this version and thats why they have decided to revert to a previous, the biggest thing they are trying to sort out is the fan control I think.
4. I suggest the same as sprint. You should get better performance with the latest ones.
Your temperatures are normal for the 6224W I also worried a bit about mine at the start.
You can undervolt your cpu (using rmclock) if you are finding the laptop too hot but It won't reduce the GPU temp. -
I will be getting mine during the beginning of next week. No OS but will have Vista Ultimate X64. I will be looking at getting it up and running with the best drivers available.

Latest drivers seem to be 169.17 for Vistax86. Will play later.
Still no joy on the keyboard front. And still not clear as to why my 6224 was shipped without the 'e' version bios - wonder if this is due to problems with that version, or an old-stock mobo... -

I can't understand the keyboard problem: UK keyboard + UK in the regional settings should work fine.
Get the latest version of the Turbo Memory driver from the Intel site. If everything is installed properly then you will see: (a) Turbo memory under Storage controllers; (b) IMD-0 under disk drives; and (c) an NVcache of 387MB under your HDD properties. Turbo Memory is in two halves - ReadyBoost and HDD cache.
005e is the latest BIOS. There is a further update in the pipeline and maybe this is why Zepto did not install 005e during assembly.
