So after browsing this forum I have read various people mentioning the likelihood
of Compal releasing a new design soon. First, is this just blind speculation? Second, if there is a possibility, will this new design be released in the upcoming months? I am asking these question after fruitless efforts to find any information, as I'm in the market for a new laptop and don't mind waiting a few months for better hardware.

There's a thread about a new design about 10 threads down on this very page: http://forum.notebookreview.com/showthread.php?t=255295 .

No, it's not speculation and yes, they're coming soon but how much better they are remains to be seen. The specs are not that impressive, but they could be hiding stuff that is important in real life usage.

The new Compal should launch with the Montevina (without the new Intel 5300 WiFi card) on July 15th. For WiFi it will still be using the Intel 4965, but will have the new chipset and processors.

Then on August 4th the Intel 5300 WiFi should become available so the full Centrino 2 platform will be available at that time.

Then, at some unknown time thereafter the WiFi/WiMax combo cards will be launched.

I guess the WiFi/WiMAX card will come out at the time Sprint will launch the WiMAX service, which date we don't know yet.

    Intel 5300 WiFi, mmmm, maybe it'll improve my D-Link DIR-655 N performance. :)
I bet it would fit just fine in old machines just like 4965 did in place of 3945.

The sample notebook I am testing is working fine.
    The wireless is fine.
The NVIDIA Graphics are great, but still need to be adjusted with drivers.
The notebook performance is overall great.
The new software tools for the Battery,WOW Video, WOW Audio and the Program DJ is great.
The delay is a different story, but then again waiting for new goodies is always nice.

Any word on a new compal 14" model? I would love to have a 14" lappy with a 8600m.

I mean refering to the DD3 version as ASUS has a 9500m in a 14" model. Still would prefer compal to ASUS to avoid their service over powernotebooks/xoticpc.

Blast! I'm disappointed. I love my CL56 but it looks like Compal is opting to go for the cheap route this time around.
