    Hey all,

    I was just on the phone with Bizcom, the Canada sub of Compal regarding HGL30.

    From what the sales rep are saying, the current HGL3x and HEL8x will be discontinue about April to June period. The new replacements will run a similar screen size and come with 14.1 and 15.4 flavors, each will come with dedicated and intergrated version.

    The change is due to the end of product cycle and the new chipset being released by Intel. Each model will come with the CBB/VBI or standard version to conform to Intel's interchangebility.

    With the introduction of 800Mhz FSB, would it be OK for me to keep my 2x1GB DDR2 667Mhz SODIMM? Will they have faster RAM out by that time?

    I was planning to get the HGL-30, if it will be discontinue in a few months, I don't think it's good for me to invest over $1500 on something that is 1 gen behind in a few months.

    The release of the new Compals during the summer seems about right. It should have Centrino Pro, and hopefully a DX10 GPU as well--but I think it's more likely to have one or the other but not both. We can hope though.

    As far as being 1 generation behind in a few months--that is the nature of the technology world. Something new is always on the horizon and will always be "right around the corner".

    Montevina will be out next year--and solid-state Hard Drives, etc. Just get the notebook you want when you need it and be happy with what you get until you need a new one :).

    I've been eyeing on HEL80 for quite some time now...and it seems there's an opportunity to get it for less after the new lineup comes about.

    The sweet spot between the new releases and the discontinuation of the old lineup ;)

    I wonder if my purchase at that point would have any impact on the warranty though...

    It is definitely nice if you can get your hands on the old system at a discounted price when the new systems are on their way or just released. Just keep in mind that the resellers also know that a new model is coming out and so may be thinning out their stock on the older ones in the time leading up to the new release. Availability may be an obstacle--but I'm sure with some looking around you'll find what you want.
