Check out our new pictures of the HGL30.

This really shows the color better than any others I have seen, and also shows the bottom opened up with all the components exposed. :)

I have to admit that when I saw the first pictures of the HGL30, I thought, what? Why would they go with that color?

But as more pictures have become available I'm pretty sure I would like it. I think that just like the HEL80's looks, it would grow on you.

Wow, those are really good. Looks almost as good as the HEL80--but entirely different. Can't wait to get it! That's one laptop I won't skin, for sure (okay, maybe stickers on palmrests, but that's about it... I'll behave).

It won't be as sleek as some Toshibas or the W3J (hard to beat that sexy monster), but it's different and that makes it stand out. Argh I can't wait! :d

I'd have to say that color is pretty darn close to what it looks like in person, only mine seems to look a touch darker. these are by far the best rendition of the color though. Nice work!!

Looks like a children's toy! I'm glad these pictures surfaced so I don't have to bother even putting this system on my list of possible candidates. Pretty much one of the ugliest laptop's I have ever seen a picture of, and that company really doesn't help matters with that horribly cheesy crown badge they whip on there, which doesn't match AT-ALL.

Actually, I did have a question on that Crown logo... is that a recessed location, or is it just a raised sticker? Any chance it could be relocated to say, the lower corner of the back of the laptop screen instead of the dead center? I'm a fan of asymmetric looks ;)

Yes it is a rescessed area, the one I got didnt even have a logo. The Asusus 14.1 does look classier but it costs $500 more when comparably equipped so meh.

Plus I travel alot so personaly Ide rather have a less conspiquous notebook then a bright chrome one. Realy fancy notebooks have a "steal me" sticker.

Granted, the HGL30 does not look as "futuristic" as the Sager NP5760... but it still quite good to me. Some people find pleasure in simple forms; others can't quite understand that. To belittle others' opinions stating one's own as facts is the quintessential proof of immaturity.

Ugh .. the machine is too much power for what it costs ... why do I find myself constantly looking back to this machine!!

I set out to find the perfect ballance of style and performance ... WHY COULDN'T THIS THING HAVE BEEN ALL BLACK... not TEAL. :(

Ok, so as not to hurt anyone's feelings, is there a way to remove the crown logo from these things from PowerNotebooks? IN MY OPINION, it doesn't match with the notebook at all. Again, just my opinion. Does anyone know of a way to maybe dress it up just a little bit?

The -ONLY- thing holding me back from this thing is the looks. Everything else is an amazing bargain!

    *Edit*

Whoa ... Xotic PC offers custom paint jobs on the LCD panel and front bezel for only $200ish extra ......... This might be the way to go ..... I need to get in touch with those dudes and see if they have examples of what can be done for the $200 tag. Even if it was a simple gloss black it'd make this thing about 100x's better looking and for me $200 well worth it. My concern would be that little plastic bump logo on the back. Can you custom make those things online somewhere or otherwise fix it up?

I can barely make myself toast in the morning! I wouldn't trust myself with painting a laptop hehe. There are a lot of talented people on these forums tho I agree. Very neat stuff.

    A) Painting is for the pros, leave it to them. :)
    B) Pros do NOT take $200 for a custom paint job. Don't fall for that.
    C) Go to Home Depot or any craft store and purchase a roll of shiny black (or whatever) vinyl sticker, then apply it to the lid and/or anywhere else. Decorate at will with additional stickers, colors, or whatnot. It's fool-proof, easily removable, and it looks awesome. I did it with a friend's IBM X20: white vinyl and it looked like a Macbook. :p

Yea, it's not really a "custom" paint job but a single color coat on a laptop cover. $200 for that seems resonable. I mean hell, maco will do your whole car for that ! haha. But this is a pretty small area to paint .. I would expect a pretty good job from them. The guy over at XoticPC posted some pictures of how one turned out. Didn't look that bad at all!

    But Vinyl and stickers? GhEtTo.

Yes, I've seen that custom paint job. It was an Asus W7J if memory serves and it was really beautiful. But $200...? Ah well, I suppose nothing is overpriced if there's someone ready to pay for it... *shrugs*

For those of you that are not happy with the teal color, wait for the VBI version of the HGL30. You'll be much happier with the color :)

That's what I thought too until I actually took my notebook apart one day.

Particularly for the HGL30, the teal top panel is very easy to remove from the rest of the screen assembly and only really involves a few sets of screws to remove. Then you just tape up the parts that you don't want affected, and then spray with nice even coats.

A custom paint job for a notebook with a uniform color scheme throughout is a bit difficult because of the difficulty of disassembling the bottom chassis which usually requires removal of the processor heatsink assembly (meaning that you need to reapply thermal compound afterwards). But for something like the HGL30 where it is just the very top panel with color, it is not something that is hard to do.
