Zepto added Realtek HD audio driver V1.80 (for both XP and Vista) to the FTP site on 31 October. This applies to most, if not all, of the current models plus some older ones.
I'm sure I recall Vista's bug reporting pointing to the Realtek driver as a source of problems, so maybe this version contains some more bug fixes. It doesn't seem to add any new features, or maybe the ability to split input devices is new (see the attached).

Ive got a quick question. Under XP i was able to just plug in my surround sound system (optical) without changing the speakers setting. E.g. I could listen to music through the laptop speakers and then plug my optical cable in the headphone socket and it would play through my decoder straight away
Under vista, if i play music with the laptop speakers and plug in the optical cable the sound stops. To get it to work i have to restart the media im playing (be it music or video) and change the default audio to "Realtek Digital Output" then start the media again.
Is there a way to get it to work like it used to?
thanks -

Have you installed the most recent 1.80 Realtek drivers?
I know the changing between outputs worked perfectly fine in the 1.69 drivers. -
please note im on a 6214W, there is no 1.80 driver

You can download it and use the one from the 6224W also if you want.
Only reason why we haven't uploaded it to the 6214W part of the FTP is because we haven't tested it for the specific machine. -
Downloaded and installed it. unfortunately it makes no difference :/

I'm guessing it's a Vista issue because of the new way the drivers interact with the hardware in Vista. I know a lot of different hardware manufacturers are having a lot of issues getting the same features implemented in Vista as they had in XP, and getting them to work as intended.

i was getting the same issue undr vista got on my nerves too so wnet back to XP. Not tried the new drivers yet though.

But, just to eliminate any stupid mistakes, have you opened the 'playback devices' from right clicking the sound icon, and then put headphones to default? By doing that it should play trough headphones when they are plugged in, othervise trough the speakers.

I can switch from headphones to laptop speakers without a problem. The problem occurs when switching from laptop speaks/headphones to digital (optical cable) or vice-versa

I kinda have the same problem, but i dont even have a realtek driver
(and I didnt have that problem with my old realtekdriver (dont know the version))
