The 15.4 with 9800M is really nice, but too expensive for me.

The 15.4 with 9600M is cool too, but the port layout is horrible. Do you see where the USB ports are? Right side in front of the DVD drive instead of being behind it towards the back. I think that would cause alot of problems. I kinda have the same problem with my HEL80. 2/3 of the USB ports are in that same spot and the 3rd is on the left side of the notebook. It's very annoying having USB cords running to that right side. I usually have all of my USB's running through a USB splitter from the left slide, now that option isn't even available.

    Gorgeous..

    Too fat for my tastes.

I'm sorry but the hype over these 15" powerhouses completely loses me when they gain that much size.

It beats the alienware hands down though.

    Hands down.

I probably would save up and take the 9800m Sager. It has a much better design over all from the 9600m Sager.

There's no PowerPro version though...

    How do you figure?

Remember you are comparing a PowerPro P 15:3 with a Sager NP8660 that has a 1 year warranty with 3 business day shipping paid both ways to the PowerPro's 3 Year Parts and Labor Warranty with Next Business Day shipping paid both ways.

Once you add $289.00 for the Sager 3 year warranty (that still only offers 3 day shipping) the difference is more like $400 if you keep the ATi 3870 video card, or over $500 more if you upgrade to the 9800M GTS...but of course you also get DDR3/1066MB memory as well.

So, when making your comparison it boils down to more like a $500 plus difference for the 9600M GT vs. the 9800M GTS and the different memory, but still with no custom paint or graphics.

Value is always in the eye of the beholder, and we all make our choices for different reasons...I just suggest these things so that the comparison is properly equalized, and the true differences are isolated so you can decide whether you are willing to pay more or less and for what features and warranties.

We sell them both so you can rest assured that we will be happy to serve you regardless of which one you select as suiting your needs best.

I sure as hell saw it, and like it a lot! Donald, the battery life for that machine is only slightly better than half that of the 12:15. Aside from buying a second battery, is there any option not shown? I'd probably switch my order right now, except for the shorter battery life.

The reason I ask if there's an option not shown, is that on the 8660, there's no option shown for 3Gigs RAM? Am I missing something (I'm not completely up to date on these new machines - their availability, etc, surprised me, as you know LOL)?

Donald can you inform us how the RAM bandwidth diff is between 800Mhz and 1066Mhz DIMM's on 1066Mhz FSB? I can't even find DDR3 on the retail market so don't know CL. I am guessing 5 vs 7? Is that correct? Does the CL offset the speed?

Hi rob I find being away from wall sockets for more than 1hr emotionally stressful so battery life not that important to me.

So do I, pp, which is why I usually prefer a machine with longer battery life. But that red 15:3 is awfully good-looking! [IMG]

It comes standard with a 6 cell battery, but any battery life figures at this time are estimates, and we tend to give conservative estimates...probably just because others tend to exaggerate.

There is no reason to believe that one model will get more battery life per cell than the other. The only real difference is one comes standard with 6 cell and the other with 9cell. However while the standard battery cannot be either upgraded or downgraded, both 6 and 9 cell batteries will be available as spares for both models.

It is too early to tell right now because as you say the DDR3/1066 memory isn't really in the market yet. The only OEMs that are offering it are having it made up for them, and at this time nobody has really had time to even pay attention to it.

However if you are asking how much difference in speed should a user expect between the two types of memory, my best guess at this time is very little.

    UPDATE:

Good guess powerpack, the DDR3/1066 is CL7.

So, since we offer the Kingston HyperX CL4 DDR2/800 in the PowerPro P 15:3, and the Sager NP8660 is CL7 DDR3/1066 it will be interesting to see how much difference there really is between the performance of the memory.

    OCZ PC3-8500 DDR3 SODIMM 1066MHz DDR3 CL 8-8-8-27
    OCZ PC3-10666 DDR3 SODIMM 1333MHz DDR3 CL 9-9-9-24

DDR3 is 204 pin memory so it will not fit in the Compal JHL90 which takes DDR2 200 pin memory.

Correct, only the M570TU with the 9800M GT is running on DDR3.
This is the only configuration we have so far

Actually, the Sager NP8660 (M860TU) also supports DDR3/1066MHz memory, but that model is pretty expensive when compared to either the Compal JHL90 or the MSI 1651...You have to REALLY want the 9800M GT.

The thing about DDR3/1066 is that it is at least CAS7, so when compared to the Kingston HyperX DDR2/800 at CAS4 you have to wonder what real world difference we will see. My take is there will be virtually no difference, except DDR3/1066 SOUNDS better :)

Why would you have DDR3 with a higher CAS than DDR2????? What is the advantage of DDR3 then?
