I bet they will abadon Inventec as the primary ODM. From so many users, all the Inventec machines have done is create problems.

as far as i can understand these new 15.4" machines are designed by Zepto completely from the ground, both design wise and feature wise. They've only had a external manufacturer to actually manufacturer and produce the actual machines for them. Atleast thats what i've heard, but we'll see when they actually release :)

One of the Zepto staff confirmed in another thread that the new models won't be from Inventec.

I also understand that Zepto are having a greater involvement in the design of the new models.

this was back when i first received my 6625WD, apparently it's bulging for someone else as well so I had thought it must've been the case for all 6625WD owners.

    http://img211.imageshack.us/my.php?image=img3939ho9.jpg

i have this urge to disassemble this and fix it if i know it can be done...(ie, no crazy wirings underneath that bulge..)

Thank you kind sir! Big move from them designing, manufactoring, and supporting their own notebooks!

They must however be using the same suppliers as Compal as they look really similar!

That's what I thought! It would be really hard for a company to suddenly start making their own laptops? I would of thought they would choose a ODM? Why are they changing their model?

Possibly Clevo will come into the picutre? Or Uniwill?

Hi guys. Re the new models we are all sworn to secrecy but as it is getting very close, just hang in there.
What I really wanted to address is the design and manufacturing issue.
The new Zepto's are designed by Zepto but built by 3rd parties, just like almost everybody elses.
Nobody, with the exception of Lenovo, Asus and Acer (sorry if I have forgotten one) manufacture their own notebooks, not even Dell and HP. They are almost all made in China or Taiwan by contract manufacturers such as Compal etc.

I would think they're all ODM anyway...

suppliers give them some options to mix and match a few functionalities, and they do the.. "choosing" part.

You can strike out Lenovo and Acer off that list. Only Asus seems to be the only notebook maker without an ODM there. Here are some old insider news bits

Well I wish you were right, but you are not.
Lenovo definately make their own, but maybe not all of them, and Acer make more and more of their own, they are actually growing very fast.
You will probbaly find that they will outsource one range and make another themselves.

I always thought all the brands either re-badged a ODM laptop, or worked with a ODM to create a notebook.

Lenovo & Acer make their own notebooks from ground up??? I saw a picture of ECS making Acer computers???

When you mean 3rd parties? Do you mean that Zepto worked with a ODM to create a notebook?

But can't wait! I did order a 6024w but then I found out new models were coming, and slightly the Inventec problems, made me wait for the new models!

    Nick.

Look up Digitimes and do a search on their website. Digitimes is the Taiwan semiconductor industries' main newspaper. You'll find Acer and Lenovo both using various ODMs for various reasons (mostly for production it seems). LG and Samsung don't seem to be reported on much. They might or might not be using ODMs.

Nice trailer. Though it should state the technical specs, even if only briefly. Looking at Zepto's website the NoxA15 has a 9600mGT 512mb ddr3 and a P8400 processor as standard. Surely that would help sell more of them.
Zepto, can I have one in exchange for my 6324W? (no extra cost to me obviously-a base model Nox A15 comes in at roughly the same as what I paid last october). :)

    Hmmm...

    From Wikipedia:

Mobile chipset an Intel Mobile 4 Express series chipset (code-named Cantiga; GL40, GS45, GM45, GM47 or PM45) with Intel's GMA X4500 graphics technology and ICH9M southbridge, 1066 MT/s front side bus. The graphics core GM45/47 is expected to be clocked at 533/640MHz which will contain ten unified shaders, up from the eight provided by GMA X3100.

    * RAM support for DDR2-667, DDR2-800, DDR3-800, DDR3-1066 and DDR3-1333 SO-DIMM.[7].

and also where is my Intel 5100/5300 card?!

Montevina does indeed support DDR3, but also suppots DDR2 RAM, but DDR3 for laptops are very expensive, so a good choice would be a montevina laptop with DDR2 RAM to keep the cost on the system down.

The Intel WLAN card is delayed because of problems with the wireless controller for the cards, that's also why the whole Montevina platform has been delayed from may to july/august.

At least that's what i've read by finding information on the web about the Montevina.

I was very impressed with the warranty regards the white dots of the screen.

Yeah, it´s a beuty! We can order the Nox with different specs here in Sweden from this day on.
But it´s an 18 day wait for it to arrive. There are some hardware out of stock.
Main thing is the cpu´s thats´all out of stock! :(
And one thing that makes me angry, is that the bragging of Blu-ray as option in the trailer. It´s not even an option yet! That sucks!

It looks great! Also when does anyone think the new 14.1" laptops will be launched?

Also, when configuring some components say (example) 320GB HD for Nox/Orion

Is the white model going to be called Orion?

Can't wait!!! Hopefully in September I will buy one!!!
