Prices are pretty good and competitive, don't you think.

Too bad that theres no HEL80 model on Newegg with WSXGA+ (1680 x 1050). Oh well, still nice prices.

Still cheaper to build one. I built the one in my sig for about $1150 including overnight shipping (from 2 stores, so the shipping alone was $60)

    dragonrage,

If you would have stuck in a T7200 instead of your T5600, then the price would not have been as nice as the fully configured ones.

I know, I also built my notebook. It was worth around $3500 (from Sager), but I built it for about $2800. Now the fully configured notebooks are usually a better value to buy than to get barebones, unless if you can't afford the fully configured notebook at once... which is why I did what I did. I got the barebones with WUXGA screen and 7800 GTX. Then it took me about 1-2 months to finish saving and purchasing the other standand parts.

Since its from Newegg, the free Vista coupons should be included in all sales (systems and notebooks) that include OS

No. I just like NewEgg. :)

Actually, if I can show NewEgg selling it, then I might have an easier time convincing clients to buy a Compal. Especially if it gets good reviews on NewEgg as well.

eewww...400 bucks extra for a 3 year warranty from newegg. These prices are not really that good compared to either powernotebooks.com, xoticpc.com or just about any other site that sells this lappy. Plus, powernotebooks and xoticpc offer 3 year warranties without an extra cost.

Is Compal a notebook manufacturer? I am also looking for a new notebook in Japan. I came across this : Prime Note Chronos IN. That seems like what you guys call a Compal HEL80. But when I inquired about the manufacturer of that notebook from the Japanese company, they told me that it is made by Clevo. But I can’t find a model that matches Chronos IN/ HEL80 in Clevo products (from their site nor web). I am confused.

Specs of Prime Note Chronos IN
    15.4 WSXGA+ (1680×1050)
    NVIDIA Geforce Go 7600 256MB
    Core 2 Duo T5500
    1GB 666MHz Ram
    100GB 5400 SATA
    Dual Layer 8x DVD +/-R/RW
    Intel® PRO/Wireless
    Camera & Fingerprint scanner
    NO OS
Converted to USD : 1350 (Shipped)

I got the chance to use a display model, the build quality looks good except for the keyboard (lot of flex in the middle, bit too much for my liking).

If the picture and specs are accurate, then that is the Compal HEL80. Keep in mind that many resellers get manufacturer information wrong on their listings.

Compal and Clevo are both ODM (original design manufacturers). They generally design & manufacture notebooks for companies like Dell, HP, etc.
