    Hi,
I was wondering if anyone had any insight as to when the next generation of P4 notebooks will come out. It seems that everyone is using the D900/Sager style for their desktop replacements such as Alienware/Voodoo/Falcon-NW/Hypersonic, etc.

So what's next? I am particularly interested in P4/desktop replacement high end processing for rendering animations.

    Thanks,
    Echo

I don't think there will be a next generation of intel p4's. Every companies makin a switch to M or centrino, which is just as powerful.

Tejas, the codename for the next generation of Pentium 4, was canceled because of thermal heat release issues. If you absolutely have to have a desktop processor for maximum performance, you should head over to notebooks with Athlon X2 (should be released by end of this year) or Pentium D.

AMD will be a safer choice.
P4s are running hotter than ever, the 6xx series is just way too bad when it comes to heat. And for someone requiring high end processing power, that means over heating and crashing will be a concern.
What I am using is P4-M which doesn't over heat, but is substantially slower bec of the 533FSB.
So for now AMD should be the better choice, and for later the X2 is looking brighter than the Pentium-D in my opinion :D

Yep, it's a shame that there aren't more choices for AMD notebooks.

I appreciate the info above. I primarily do 3d rendering, so i've been focussed on the p4 as opposed to any other proc until now.

Does anyone have the long/short of Pentium D versus AMD X2?
