I'm sittin in class and got bored, put my elbow up on the left hand rest section of my IFL90.

    I heard a slight snap.

I'm guessing it was just the plastic, but I want to run it past you guys.

What's directly under the left handrest.. As I know that's where it usually gets hot.. and I wanna make sure I didn't ust dislodge a heatsink or fan.. I didn't lean hard... Just resting teh elbow.

Probably just the plastic. The CPU and fan is actually in the left-rear of the notebook, under the strangely shaped panel on the bottom. The closest thing I can find around that area that may become dislodged is the ram, but it would take more than resting your elbow on the notebook to do that, so I believe you are safe.

pry it open and take a look? unless you have those plastic/rubber seals covering your screws, hard to get the exact same as your reseller's offering sometimes ;)

Hmm, interesting, what is there to snap? It's all pretty much flat plastic and if you say you didn't apply monumental pressure, I don't see what might have happened.

Lol, best case scenario, are you sure you didn't snap like a pencil underneath it? Or something else?

I guess if you sat on it, bad things would happen, but mine seems pretty sturdy. Will not rest elbow on it from now on though...

problem with elbow is it applies the same force that a weight of a hand is plus whatever you rest on your hand (say head). That, but on a very small area (elbow tip is not so big, about an inch square or so), hence the force is quite big in the particular place.

I just tried sort of with my EL80, did make a small crackly noise, but I don't think anything got damaged. Just the plastic reacted. If nothing rattles in your FL90, I pretty much would suppose it was the same as here.

    Cheers.

True, true, it is potentially a lot of weight on a concentrated point of contact.

I think that might be what happened, "the plastic reacted". It's fairly stiff, so perhaps it cracked a little, but as long as it's working fine, I guess no harm, no foul?

At least you didn't lean on the LCD or something...
