I have a new 6625wd which has a noisy keyboard only around the F5-7, 5-7 & RTY keys, the rest of the keys are fine and the keyboard appears to be correctly fitted. In these areas the keys make a very hollow clicking sound when pressed and I was wondering if the board had been deformed in this area by the fixing screws shown on the rear of the laptop. How easy is it to remove the keyboard on a 6625wd to check if they are fitted correctly, I don't want to have to return the machine for Zepto to check as I need it all the time.

I have exactly the same problem. The keyboard retaining tab just above the F5 key has movement, that is what you are hearing.
They are picking mine up tomorrow to have it fixed.
Give them a call, they are very helpful.

@ Kendle: You can easily fix it yourself
and now you haven't got your laptop for a couple of days/ weeks :-s -
Thanks, yes I am sure you are right, but I have several keys that are intermittent as well

djcla, that's a good question. I would like to hear the answer for that also
-
Why should you lose your warranty when getting out your keyboard :-s
On my Zepto Znote forum at Tweakers.nl there are several guys that did that!
Offcourse I first emailed Zepto about it, and it wasn't a problem to do it! -
Rene S - Zepto Company Representative
CLB-NL have you emailed Zepto or N4ALL? Because our normal procedures are that removing the keyboard voids the warranty.
-
Well, it was said to me that it doesnt void the warranty straight away, but if you break the keyboard, you pay. Pretty simple and logical to me. But if you say it voids the varranty, then I dont think anyone will buy your laptops anymore, it cant get a warranty void because you clean the fan, thats just robbery... (I mean send it to Zepto to get it cleaned????)
-
When they had UK-keyboard problems they send the ordered
Zepto's with US-keyboards! When the UK-keyboards were finally
there they've send them to the people with a US-keyboard-Zepto!
And they give them 2 options:
-Go to their Zepto-centre to fit it in for them
-Read the attached manual and fit it in by theirselves
And I know it for 1000% sure that there wasn't a warranty-problem ;-)
And otherwise.. I don't give a f*ck -

Yes, we've been here before and I thought the consensus was that damage caused by removing a keyboard would not be covered by warranty, but if there's no damage then the warranty is intact. I've got some sticky tape under my 6024W's keyboard to stop the bounce. I'll have to remember to remove that if I ever need to send the notebook back for repair.

I can't comment on what the retailers do in specific countries as they have special deals with the Accounting managers for that specific retailer about what they are allowed to, but as far as I'm informed customers themselves are generally not allowed to mess around the with machines and taking them apart.
I can only say how the rules are in Denmark and here the warranty is voided if the customer messes with anything but changing RAM and HDD/ODD. But that's still only as long as the problems that occur with the machine has no relation to the things they have changed on the machine (unless we've actually asked them to change it, then it's still covered normally).
We normally in Denmark offer, as good service, to take the machine in for "repairs" and clean out the insides of the machine if the customer experience heat related issues. -
than you could send your laptop every month to Zepto to clean it
Or let I say: If you want to clean your laptop every month (just to be sure)
you aren't allowed to do that because you void your warranty!? Really
For the rest of your answer: Thanks -

2 cents....
It's an awfully spendy laptop for such a crappy keyboard.
We also own their basic "Znote 4200" model from 2 years
back, much better keyboard by far (and computer in general).
We've been looking for an aftermarket keyboard but alas,
no luck. Real dissapointment for us.
UPDATE======================================
Would anyone at Zepto ever consider making a new keyboard
for the 6625wd? If not, are there any resources out their
for an aftermarket keyboard (non-external)? -
I had a Zepto 4200 aswell, and I must say I don't remember the keyboard on that machine being as noisy as the one on my 6224...
I'm getting REALLY tired of it :S -
Well I dont have any noisy keys in that area, but Iv lately started to get bad/slow response from the keys left of the tgv line (not numbers or f-keys tough)

Well you are comparing laptops from 2 differnet ODM's.
The 4200 was from Compal (same as our 3000-series).
The 6625/6224 is from Inventec, and we are the only ones selling these models.
Designed and manufactured by different ODM's = different products -

We have (2) 6625wd laptops, and both my wife and I
are actively searching for replacements (keyboards).
So if anyone knows of how this could come about
we'd be greatful! -

It still hasn't been changed in the models that are being sold today, which leads to the conclusion that Zepto thinks:
a: it's working as intended
b: we heard the complaints, buuuut... we don't care
Atleast that's my take on it. -
on a sidenote, id like to ask zeptos people in here if the keyboard in the 6224/6324 are the same as in the older 6214 models? it seems alot like the newer 6x24 keyboards are more plastic like and gives away more noise aswell.
P.s. I do have both a 6214w and a 6324. -

I've got 2 keys now that are beginning to stick or not register. I was
curious if anyone has actually sent the laptop to have it fixed?
Is it worth waiting for potentially weeks to get something so simple
fixed that you could do it yourself and void the warranty?
Did they replace the keyboard? If so was the new keyboard up to
snuff? -
Repairing usually takes about 3-4 weeks, that's too long IMO. Not worth it. I think you'll be able to fix it yourself, but then you'll void the warranty I think
-
ChristopherGrant Notebook Consultant
That's my understanding as well, with the warranty.
Does anyone know if there's a law about customer service during
repairs? Specifically, if the repair takes an unusually long time
(3+ weeks I think it was) then the company has to provide you
with a replacement during that time.
I could've sworn there was a law in Denmark about this.
UPDATE: I've emailed the Swedish site about this, hopefully I
can get some updated information and share here soon. -
Will like to hear the answer you get! I don't remember the law about repairs, but I know this, if your machine needs to be repaired 2 times within 6 months, you have the right to get a new machine
-
Rene S - Zepto Company Representative
Cases with exchanging of keyboards normally do not take longer than 3-5 work days from we receive the machine. Some, if not most, are repaired the same day they are received.
-
ChristopherGrant Notebook Consultant
That's encouraging, thanks Rene. Do you happen to know if it's the
same exact keyboard or if they've update it any? -
If they havent do some waving at em would ya
-
Rene S - Zepto Company Representative
It's the exact same keyboard. But I've noticed there can be a small difference in the key quality from keyboard to keyboard.
-
ChristopherGrant Notebook Consultant
Sounds good enough to me, I'll be back in Copenhagen sometime in the next
2-3 weeks, will probably drop it off to get replaced. Thanks for the quick
reply! -
If it's the exact same keyboard it's not going to help on the flex

You're probably right on that score, will call down to them before hand
to confirm. -
Make sure to always call/e-mail and get a RMA-number before you send in the machine or visit us in Denmark.
If it's just the keyboard that needs to be replaced, it's possible that we can do it while you are waiting, BUT we can't guarantee this! It all depends on if there's any available technician at the time and of course if we have any new keyboards in storage.
