Mine GPU temp is about 58C (136.4F) when not under stress, but if I ever play a game (which I dont, only chessmaster), what should I expect as GPU temperature range?

Any info on your gpu would help but in full screen 3d games it would probly go somewhere in the high 60's - low 70's if it 58C idle.

    Hope that helps :)

Yes. The 8600 can handle up to 90c before you should start panicing. My gpu is 59c idle, 79 under stress. Don't worry about it.

Yes. Gpus can operate above 100C! but thats obviously not reccommended ;)

You could shave 5-10C off that with a notebook cooler if you plan on using your notebook for prolonged gaming, for an extended gpu lifespan and piece of mind.

Are you both saying that if I run out of heating (I have gas) I could use my laptop to keep warm? :D

60-84 under load? Sounds a bit unstable  , how do you mean under load? Stress test or prolonged gameing? As long as it doesnt stay 80+ for too long (half an hour or more) i think it wont do too much damage :)

it's the range of temps I had under load. the 84 was an all time max I had when playing cod4... It was int the 60s range when playing fs2004 but stuffs like supreme commander, cod4 or hl2 it goes higher...

Ok so that sounds just about right.. my card goes low 70's sometimes and i expect it would go higher if i played for longer.. But if your concerned you could try elevating your laptop slightly so it isnt pressed against.. Whatever you play on(which also plays a part in heat :))

That's a good idea, especially if you play in bed, the laptop over the bed sheet is not good, it keep the heat in the laptop.

I got 93 once! In my experience best heater is 3dmark06 and FEAR. CoD4 is one of the coolest games a have ever seen. :)
Avarage for me is 86 at stable everyday OC settings.

Man, I'm not even in the books, I will have to heat my laptop too, the problem is that I don't have games! Unless I stress my laptop with an application.

I was talking about the gddr2 OC not the main ram, I didn't fiddle with it so stock timings: 5-5-5-15.
