I purchased this laptop on 2/8 (exchanged on 2/10 because of dead pixels). Has worked fine since (some issues with Win98 and 2000). Used it last about a month and a half ago and it was working fine ATM. Just returned from vacation and wanted to power it up.

Battery appeared to be dead so I plugged it in and proceeded to burn the CD I wanted. Powered down and charged it for a few hours. Next morning, tried to boot up from battery and NOTHING. Plugged in and Windows reports 0%, charging. Let it charge overnight and still 0%! Multimeter shows 11v at pins. Battery has shown 9.3v even after charging overnight (9.12v now).

What's going on here? I'm tempted to say its a bad battery, but it wont even take any charge.

It could be a defected battery or the invertor that charges the battery is defected too if that's the case then you'll have to take it back and ask for a new one or get your money back.

I have the similar problem as

    http://forum.notebookreview.com/showthread.php?t=22705

In beginning, it always stay on 76% and at about 50% the computer is shut down. I call custom service and follow their instruction to charge it again. It stay at 50%. now it 0%. Windows shows it is charging. But it not.

You mean it maybe a defect battery or invertor. The invertor in inside the AC adapter or in the computer?

    Thanks.

I do have a similar problem. The only solution is charging when the computer is not running.

In addition, when I cleared the BIOS password (they asked me to do this), this *** BIOS obviously set a default password. The *** hotline can't help. Let's see what my lawyer can do for me.

Averatec? Nice notebooks, but never again. :buyIBM:
