I started noticing the fan on my Nox started making more and more raspy noises. I occasionally heard it when I picked it up, but now it also occured when it was sitting on the desk. So I took off the bottom cover to troubleshoot the issue. I thought the fan might be scraping up against something, and it appears I was right.

You can see the fan cover is a little bent inwards at the spot where I usually hold it when I pick it up. So when it sits upright, the blades lightly scratch against the cover there. I tried bending it back a little bit, and so far it seems that helped; it not rasping anymore.

So a word to the wise: grab you laptop near the bottom, not at the top. That cover material is not the strongest. ;)

I'm wondering if this could be the case on my machine too. Always when I have had Nox A15 it has kept this rasping side noise which is notable especially on slow fan speeds. I received my machine from repair a week ago and they stated that they changed the fan (because the rasping went horrible worse) but the machine still keeps this rasping noise even with a new fan (not so loud as earlier). Sometimes its more noisy rasping and sometimes it's barely hearable.

I'm wondering if anyone else is having this same problem or is it a "feature" for this machine...

Also, which kind of screwdriver you used to open the screws in the bottom of your machine, seems to be impossible to open with normal ones.

Yeah that's how it was for me, sometimes it would be very loud, sometimes not so much. It got worse over time though.

I have a set of jewellers screwdrivers that are super tiny, but I even had to use the second-tiniest of the bunch before it would fit in those ridiculously small screws.

Do you have any idea where I could get those or do they have some kind of product code / size printed on them?

Ive had my Nox in for repairs (fan making loads of noise when spinning up). And this new fan that they installed seems to be starting some racketyklank in there again now, have to check if this is the prob. Doubt it but never know. Thanks for the tip.

I got my fan replaced for the very same reason and this new fan is starting to keep this same noise too =( Actually I would be pretty happy with the machine now if the damn fan didn't keep this rasping noise but what can you do...

I checked this and the plastic sheet was a bit loose, i pressed it tight again and the sounds id gotten from my nox disappeared instantly. Also the cables for the fan power were loose so i tucked those in, wich of the two that did the trick i dont know but im guessing the plastic.

Great post then. Very helpful, saved me tons of annoyance.

Ok I opened my laptop and tried bending the metal cover outside from the fan and it really helped. Now I'm wondering if there's a permanent solution for this problem because the cover metal does of course get easily bent back so that the fan starts rasping against it.

The sound has reappeared for me, its that bloody black sticker thing thats making the sound methinks, if i hold my hand 1 cm from the fan exhaustopening the sound goes away, driving me nuts and i want to slam my hand straight down in the comp. =/

Yea the sound reappeared also for me. Anyway, I ordered today Lenovo T400 and I'm going to to stop using my Zepto when I receive it later this week. Hopefully I get this Zepto Nox A15 sold for a good price. It was fun (sometimes not so fun) while it lasted but I don't think that I'm going to read this subforum much longer anymore. I hope you get your problems solved with Zepto some way.
