Nvidia just reached a settlement in regards to their mobile GPUs. Anyone with an affected Apple, Dell, or HP laptop is eligible for a replacement or compensation.

I bought a Sager NP2090 from xoticpc.com during the summer of 2007. Last year the 8600m GT in my notebook experienced the same problem that many of you have had to deal with, it died. The notebook was out of warranty, leaving me with the options of leaving it dead or buying a new card and installing it myself.

Now that Apple, Dell, and HP users are all being reimbursed are we left out? I'm seriously doubting buying another "custom" notebook if they don't come with the support and protection that the bigger companies provide.

Too bad it's US only. I'm waiting for something to be done in Canada, but I'm not holding my breath.

Custom laptops will never come with the protection that the big companies provide -- this is simply a matter of scale. Apple & Co. have both the resources to sue Nvidia and the threat of not buying GeForce cards ever again if they're not satisfied so their customers get reimbursed. With the custom notebook resellers, you should be grateful if they honor their warranty agreement rather than weaseling out of it.

i don't think it is the computer company that sued Nvidia, but rather the end users. Lenovo users are not included in this compensation either.
