I am looking into getting an Arima w840 and had a question about the keyboard location. From the pictures, it looks like the keyboard is positioned very far forward compared to what I have seen in other laptops.

Can someone with this model tell me the measurement from the front edge to the spacebar?

lol nice. I guess I will hold my breath until someone actually gets a ruler then. I don't have any soda/beer cans in the house. I thought this was going to be a deal breaker, but then I realized my Inspiron has a good amount of space in front as well.

why what is the problem with having it so far. I agree that they could of used the space more wisely but they didn't. and if you are interested you should hurry. there is very limited amounts.

Well, its a $2000 investment so I would like to get something that I like and that my wife won't hate. It is just so much different when compared to the sager and msi laptops. Just trying to get an idea if my palms, wrists or forearms are going to be resting on the laptop while i type.

I guess my fate depends on you (or someone else) finding a ruler or me finding a can of coke. :D

Yeah, just found a can. So 2.4 cans is ~6.25 inches. My inspiron is 4.75 inches. I guess another 1.5 inches won't kill me.

I can't believe I am leaving this up to a lemonade can.

I know, I know. Of all the questions I should be asking about a laptop I am worrying about a little surface dimension.

Well, I abandoned the idea of the Sager 5793 because of the reported loud fan noise and that it was the santa rosa platform and the gpu.

I abandoned the idea of the MSI GT725 because Xotic told me that the warranty wasnt that great and because of the lcd screen bleeding.

That left me with OCZ as my top choice. Now that I know I can add the second GPU down the road and still get crossfire I am happy because saving that $230 puts it in my budget.

So hopefully this laptop is not as loud as the sager, at least thats what I read. Any thoughts?

Any problems with the fact this thing weights 10 lbs? Do you use this only at a desk or on your lap with a cooler?

right now I was it on a desk mostly o can use it on my lap if it Is needed. but I don't use a cooler my laptop doesn't scare me to much to use a cooler. but summer didn't comw yet. the noise is very quite. there is 3 modes. they hit at about 35, 65about, 85. if you are idling then you won't notice it. but I would suggest you to get two gpu's. it is well worth it. I ws going to get one to but I waited out and got the two. I was very happy. I did a test using one gpu and a t9400 and then I did it with two, and there was a huge difference. what cpu are you getting.

My budget was pretty fixed at ~$1800, but the best I can get the OCZ for is $1908. With the warranty and components, I felt I could bump up my budget by $100. It is easier for me to purchase this now as is and upgrade later so that its not one big hit to the savings.

Of course I would love the Q9000 or P9600 and the crossfire gpus, but I can't spend the extra $400. So for now I am going with the one GPU and the P8600 unless I come into some more discretionary money. I also have to keep everything in perspective with the previous computers i have owned. My desktop was a Dell Dimension 4400 (P4 2.4GHz and a 32MB Diamond Viper) that I used for WoW and my current laptop is an Inspiron 8600 (Pentium M 2.0GHz and an NVidia FX Go5200). Any processor/GPU combination on the market today would be a huge improvement over what I have had and currently have. :D

As far as those modes go, are those GPU/CPU temps?

I was looking at the NP5797, but there doesn't seem to be any benchmarks for the 280M GPU. It actually comes in around $40 cheaper then the OCZ. Just not sure if the 280M is better then the HD3870
