Interesting. I would have liked it more if they advocated more flexibility with the optical drive and the GPUs in that link. The optical drive may be harder because replacing the front bezel is tricky business, but the GPU seems straight forward. The skill requirements is just like placing the CPU, as illustrated in that video. Maybe we can petition OCZ to add more flexibility with the GPU (i.e push for MXM modules that be purchased separately). Kinda like the Asus with the 8600M GT cards.

From their main site? Probably the same as all other vendors offering the whitebook, if not less...

I don't usually post here. But those drivers are not for the Flextronics W840-DI notebook. The driver link is the same as the 15" Intel DIY notebook previously released. This is probably a typo in the link, or the drivers for this new product have not been uploaded yet.

I'm intrigued by this, since the DIY will most likely be available at Canadian retailers. This would save me on the super high conversion rate of buying a notebook from xotic or rk computers.

I've been wanting to buy this notebook since it was first shown but the crippled canadian dollar has recently made me look towards other local notebooks.

no it's not difficult(optical drive).. I did it with this rig. It's 2 little tabs to be compressed, remove faceplate, install new faceplate. I'll be posting pics of my assembly between now and tomorrow. But, there's nothing to it.

Hmm, I had a much different experience when I had my Dell XPS system and replaced the drive with one I found on ebay. You are right that there are two compressed tabs, but for the one I got from ebay, it was also tabbed to the bottom of the tray and I ended up chipping one of the two main tabs on that one :(

Also you have to pick the right model that lines up with the light, manual eject hole and the tray button. This bezel for example won't be compatible with this one because of that. In the case of the whitebook, anything that looks like the latter with a SATA port can be swapped with its bezel.

Side note: It would be sweet though if there was a mod to use a slot-load DVD for the whitebook and have a bezel that supports the slot.
