Does anyone know if the dedicated GPUs in the OCZ DIY kits are MXM and what type?

Oh, and how does a whitebook differ from barebone, and kit?

The 15 inch one with the 8600M GT is an MXM-II and the 17 inch model with the ATi cards and Intel processors are MXM-III for both cards. The 15 inch model with the ATi card (Radeon 3650/M86) is actually built into the motherboard, which sucks.

A "Whitebook" is essentially a barebone kit, but we just like to call it the Whitebook (the 17 inch model with the ATi cards and Intel processors) due to the fact that the color of it is nowhere close to white ;)

Do those barebone and DYI machines (17" with ATI) differ from eachothers. I've understood that barebone and DYI are exactly the same machine ... but is that the case. Of course memories can differ in DYI (depends what you buy urself) but if theres same processor do expect to have same performance in both systems??? That review which is in my other post (barebone / DYI question) says that theres a difference which I don't understand :) ... Coukld some1 clarify what the real deal is ... do I start hunting "real" DYI machine ... or just buy a barebone where I find it cheapest :)

...heh, this is what being really sick does to you (it's 2 in the morning here and my stomach virus is preventing me from a good night's sleep).

The DIY kit offered by OCZ from vendors like newegg and what we know here as the Whitebook are in fact the same machine/chassis (the Arima W840Di). The Whitebook is usually sold from resellers as a fully specced system, while the DIY kit is sold as a system with the CPU, RAM/Memory, Hard Drive and the mini-WiFi card missing (which obviously, the buyer must purchase elsewhere).

As far as getting a DIY/Barebone model, some vendors who sell a fully specced Whitebook also sell it as a barebone, such as Dark Smiley Systems and RK Computers to name a few. You can check out this post, which has a list of vendors/system builders who sell both a fully-specced Whitebook and the DIY/Barebone version.

The review that was linked was using 2 completely different models, so the comparison was utterly pointless.

So I could get a whitebook from some of the vendors listed in that link?

As its OEM, I'd think the whitebook would be even cheaper than the kit. I'm wondering this because I think someone on these boards was selling an OCZ whitebook for like $350. Someone else bought it and assembled everything except OS and is now selling it for $620.

If I could find a whitebook somewhere, that would be even better than the kit! :D
