Some general inquiry questions in regards to this seemingly wicked awesome machine:
1) My budget is $3000 with shipping included, and don't worry about tax, cause i'm buying from Canada. After a bit of research here is what i think is my best price-to-performance configuration:
P9500 2.53ghz 25w
2x 3870s in CF (2x 512mb, 2x256bit)
4gb ddr3, 4gb robson turbo mem
320gig 7200rpm HD
Vista home premium 64bit installed
Custom laptop skin $90
Those are the main parts, and I carted it for about $2700 with cash discount, let's close it at $2800 after shipping and duty fees at the border. Bottom line is, the new macbook pros are out and I want to annihilate that piece o crap apple with this rig right here. Would this be it?
On XoticPC, they have the QX9300 on the list at the specs on the overview page, but not on the customization page, even though killernotebooks does have that as an option, for only $600 more no less...
It says the 9800M GTX is being tested, so should I wait to get the nvidia in SLI on this rig or will the mobility 3870s serve me right with games like GTA4, Fallout 3/Oblivion, Assassin's creed, UT3, and Farcry 2?
Thanks a lot guys

AMD's crossfire scales better than sli.
-
thanks man, what do you think about the p9500? I would like to get a nice decent overclock off of any given cpu these, i do understand that i'm severely limiting myself with the laptop platform but still, i heard rumours that this model can't overclock at all... go for the t9600? Unfortunately, xoticpc stopped selling the robson turbo mem which I really want and is in my cart but can't get it again and xoticpc has much better warranty for the price than killernotebooks, and I don't know who else sells this lappy with the option of being able to skin it with my own image/artwork...
-
Sorry but only Crossfire is supported no SLI. But ATI has some very nice benchmarks so I say go for ATI.
Killer Notebook does have the QX9300 and is price nice if you want to go big on performance. But Xotic is good if you want to buget and save cash. That's why I guess they don't have the QX9300.
The one I may get KN comes to around $3500. Still debating OCZ or the NP9262. -
You can only OC laptop cpu with X in there name ie X9100 or QX9300. The turbo memory is not support yet. but you can get now or install it later yourself.
-
I wanna keep things although powerful, lower power consumption than desktop replacement cpus because even on a 12-cell im gonna get like 30 minutes of battery life on this im guessing on a GOOD day and i still need this for getting notes down in college/university. But KN has actually an awesome setup for $3022 with US shipping paid. I can ship it to my cousins in California, who will then ship it to me so that I save $80, check it out:
T9600 2.8ghz (OCable over P9500?)
3870 X2 CF
4GB DDR3 1333mhz! + 4GB Turbo mem
320gig 7200rpm
No OS
Custom Graphic Shield $35
$3022... I will pay $22 over my budget for the ram upgrade. What do you think? -

You also can purchase your QX somewhere else and put it in yourself along with your Turbo. Great thing about whitebooks and such.
-
unforuntately im not a builder, so unless I can read a crash course on building/replacing parts online for free, I don't think its an option, and as much as I relish the idea of mobile quad core in my laptop, upgrades are less expensive than buying the CPU separately which is on sale for over $1000 last time I checked... Why are only the Extreme edition overclockable? That's a little fascist. Does KN have a 1800 number? I'd be calling from canada and I really don't wanna pay long distance to ask them a few questions.
-
I think you may the Pxxxx CPU's more Batt life. The X CPU are design for OC the Pxxxx is a new version of Txxxx. That's why you get better batt life.
From what I hear the X9100 get's around 2 hours of batt life. But that's just the first run test. -

Seriously Shmurrr, give mark at killernotebooks a call. and he might be willing to work out some prices with you. Don't let all the negative remarks about Killernotebooks form a bias in you. Hes a pretty good guy, and knows alot about building systems.
-
steve i have no problem buying from KN its just that they have a very weird order form, no shopping cart or anything (i understand that its an expensive service for a business website), but yeah its a long distance call from here to call that cell number on the website.
-

Than PM him a messege on his forums, and have him give you a call.
-
Killer Notebooks posted that their Q9200 overclocks to 2.67 in the BIOS which could be a good price to performance point if you didn't want to pay all the way up to the QX9300.
-
ideally, I would want one of those quad core mobiles in my notebook to run 24/7 stable at 3+ghz
-
It's the best bang per buck. I can't wait to get it! -

Same configuration is $2484.00 carted -
dude, to hell with the p9500, i can get a qx9300 with that setup for 3118! I'll see if i can take it down with cash discount or something! Why doesn't rk have turbo memory?!?! KN said their working on fixing it, or talking to the guy who is... Oh well i'll have to wait, i guess...
-
DUDE...............
Your the one who started this thread with the P9500 in YOUR configuration so relax.........
I spoke with both companies: Killernotebooks and RK Computers, the OCZ chassis DOES NOT currently support turbo memory but OCZ told them they are working on supporting it.
You started this looking for answers and now your jumping on people giving you those answers........... -

I haven't looked up all the facts on it yet, so I will just ask the question: is this Turbo Memory worth it? From the bits I have read, it doesn't seem to be. Any links to dispute this?

They didn't add presitge for the PC. Lame huh

sorry about the long absence away from the forums, at about 1:30AM EST today my computer just shut down, and reading on some forums, i think my PSU just do\ied on me after about 3.5 years of good service. This really sucks and I need the computer cause im turning it into a mac. Literally. So I'm probly gonna have to buy a new one, unless i can find some warranty on it but enermax doesn't have that model for sale anymore... Anyways, to hell with the P9500, I'll get an OS from elsewhere, right now my goal is to find a setup with this OCZ that'll get me a QX9300, 2 M3870s, 4GB 1333, 4GB turbo mem and a decent 250gb+ HDD for <$3100. RK didn't do a bad job for $3118 less the turbo mem and the 1333mhz RAM that K|N has to offer. Overclockable mobile-quad core chip has become my top priority
-
you will buy in american $??
cuz if you buy from xoticpc and you are in canada
3000$ +50$shipping = 3050$x 1,17(currency) x 1,13(tax) = ~4032$ CAD+ brokerage fee +/-200$ -
no dude, theres no tax on american orders to canada, only if you're in the same state or province, i picked up on that already. And to save money i'll be shipping the notebook to my cousins place in california since they're coming to visit in december anyway... currency sucks thats true
-
What did I missed that? -
K|N raised their prices
-
so the real price is 3100? or 3600?
-
How is the RKC Whitebook with QX9300, 4GB RAM, other maxed specs only 3100$???? Your dreaming, specs like that cost way more than ur budget...
-
I confused that Shmurrr talked he could buy laptop with QX9300 and other maxed form K|N at 3100. In K|N sites after I've tested this configure it went higher than 3600 that I knew
-
Shane@DARK. Company Representative
Shmurrr was referring to the price at RKC, not KN.
-
I wish K|N would have those prices, but watsup with their warranty policy? Xoticpc, RKC, and others have at least lifetime labour, and xoticpc has 3 years complete care included, so does puget pc. Why is K|N limiting this policy, its taken care of by OCZ anyway, is it not? I would love tobuy from K|N cause not only are they the only e-tailer that still allows me to order turbo memory modules with the Nagamaki, as well as G. Skill RAM @ 1333mhz, but their setup is more expensive than my budget, which I'm hoping to change soon, but for now it needs to stay <US $3100, i hope the canadian dollar will go back up by december which is when I plan to buy the notebook, if not earlier, and maybe the hardware prices might go down as well... Time will tell, but help and suggestions from you guys in the meantime is always appreciated...
EDIT: Hey darksmiley, the OCZ is not listed in you guyses' inventory contrary to the intro thread for this forum's subsection, is it coming back up anytime soon? -
Shane@DARK. Company Representative
Hopefully it will be. At the moment there's no capital to pre-buy in bulk, so we're currently only selling in orders of 5+.
-
Talk to mark he is offering a 3 year manufaturer warranty, Xotics is 3 years through them IIRC
-
Has any one from xoticPC got their Force Extreme yet? Didnt Justin say that they got like 20 shipped to them last week?
EDIT: Where the hell are you getting these 3100$ prices from RKC from? When i do a config with QX9300 and the other stuff you mentioned, it comes to 3780$ only 100 less than K|N./.. -
qaz, its $3118 for QX9300, 2x 3870, 4GB DDR3, 320gig WD with freefall sensor... no os, no turbo module, but yeah, 3118. everything else leave as is.
EDIT: I emailed mark (username killernotebooks on guruofgaming forums) this weekend, im expecting an answer back at some point maybe today. Unless there's a better or faster way to contact him... -
Calling him is the fastest way. Or posting in the forum =)
-
again, coming back to not wanting to face long distance charges calling a cellphone number in wisconsin, i did pm him on the forums and email him, so unless he doesnt check his pms when he goes onto the forums, im gonna catch him, right?
EDIT: MArk has called me, and has solved nearly all my problems. All hail K|N notebooks, (and yes that mean I'll be buying the nagamaki within the next week or two)
