I am trying to decide which new Lappie to get. There are about 5 good choices right now, but this one seems to be the best of all worlds. I have been reading all the forums, no one seems to discuss the build quality/ruggedness of the OCZ Whitebook. What I would really love to find out is:
- Is it tough like a Thinkbook?
- Does everything fit together tightly?
- Does it Flex or Creak?
- Does the screen rub against the keyboard when closed?
- Does the screen break if it gets poked from behind?
I really appreciate your input and especially your first hand experience!
Thanks for reading.

Yeah, to bad NBR don't get more of these as well as Clevo's to do more reviews on them. But mhooper loves his.
If his came looking like a POS, I think we would see a thread ripping the OCZ to shreds. But so far so good. This maybe the NB of the year. -
It has a very solid build. It has 3 hinge spots with really really thick plastci around the screen so there is no worries about it creaking and breaking.
It doesnt flex at all. The keyboard is as solid as a rock. You could fit a few pieces of paper inbetween the keyboard and the screen when closed so no worries of burn in.
You would have to push the back of the laptop extremly hard even to see the impression on the screen so maybe if you dropped a heavy book on it from 4 feet or so you might be able to damage the screen.
The only thing that could have been better with it is the optical drive they used. Is a little noisy for reading DVD's, but since they dont have a faceplate to go over an aftermarket one you cant easily switch it. Mark over at KN custom built one that will give the ability to replace it with an aftermarket one and I should be getting it in the mail within a few days. (That he sold to me for pretty much nothing, probally less than he paid for the drive itself)
the notebook has not loose parts no squeeking, creaking, no loose drives, pretty much the only way it could be any stronger would be to build it out of aluminum but I think the added weight would suck.
It is finished in glossy black so a palm rest cutout that Mark is shipping me is a must. It is a finger print magnet. -
Thanks for taking the time to answer in such great detail. This is really sounding to be best Laptop out there right now.
THANKS AGAIN! -
Totally agree with hooper -- it's a very solid notebook. Mine doesn't creak or flex at all, and the fit and polish on it are very good. The keyboard is ultra solid.
I've had rickety notebooks before (old Dells and Eurocoms) as well as a pretty solid notebook (my Inspiron 1705 held up well). The OCZ whitebook is every bit as solid as the best of them. Maybe moreso.
The only thing I'd change would be to change the shiny interior finish to matte. It really looks gross pretty quickly.
