    Please help.

I am very interested in the OCZ whitebook (but I want to see the first batch of reviews before I decide).

Xotic is a lot cheaper than K|N and has a great reputation for service.

I was planning on getting the P9500 (it seems to have the best price/performance ratio).

My question is what exactly am i paying for with K|N when it is specked the same as Xotic?

Xotic also has an accidental damage warranty that is very enticing. Does anyone know how the Xotic's warranties match up to the K|N's?

Thanks in advance for any insight/experience you can share!

That's an unfair statement about K|N being overpriced, Pho. At least specifically for the OCZ Whitebook, your statement is untrue as both companies' prices are about the same when you factor in some of the options that one offer and the other don't. I'll just leave it at that so as not to flame anything.

K|N also works with you to fix any problems, and also offers upgrades at cost when released.

    I think

K|N is listed as an official OCZ System Builder

    http://www.ocztechnology.com/wheretobuy/system_builders/all/north_america

    As too is RKComputer.net

This explains a whole lot because these 2 guys (Mark of K|N and Rob of RKC) are always the first to post and provide us with technical information about this notebook that only a true system builder would know about.

From my own experience with contact with the two, I would totally go with Xotic. Mark from K|N has that Apple arrogance in his writing, which is totally unbecoming for a company so small. Apple can do it because they are THE S*IT, but in my opinion, K|N is too small to be arrogant.

Xotic on the other hand, Justin and Brad are just awesome guys as far as I've had contact with them.

The only difference is the alleged Core Optimization Program K|N gives out, and all the tweaks and stuff Mark does. As a customer though, I really don't care about all the tweaks when the company treats me like crap.

    I would recommend Xotic.

I personally chose Mark with K|N as he struck me of more a system builder than a reseller. He recieved the model well before any other system builder in the US. I also talked to him in vast detail regarding his mods and other system upgrades.

Some may say his heat sink mods dont do anything, however I tend to believe what I researched. As well as his core optimization program, which I have and I can tell you that along with the boost button were innovative ideas rather than just putting in only what you are given he created something to make what you have better in my opinion.

It also helped that his review on Toms Hardware where he won teh Ultimate Laptop challenge.

Some sheep tend to believe that the decesion they made were the right ones so to support thier decesion they believe if others do what they have done it will lead one to believe their decesion was correct.

I also would rather someone tell me like it is rather than just sell me something I wont use or dont need. And would rather someone be straight than just be nice to me to make a sale.

Not excusing either company of doing those things just giving my experience.

Mark had also offered the first mobile quad core qx9300 and was willing to push the envelope on the systems.

I also spoke to each company and did about 35 hours worth of research.

Mark suited my needs and answered my questions more to my liking and from my point of view had a better knowledge of the computer.

When it comes to price they are about the same when you consider the technical supprt and the Dead pixel policy's. (K|N includes it in thier price autmatically)

Here is my suggestion to you. Call both companies and ask every question you have. Whichever you feel most comfortable with. go with.

(+ rep dit for the helpful links)

    Wow!

I really appreciate all of the great responses. In no way do i want to start (or continue) any kind of a war between companies. As far as i can tell, they both do a great job and neither is perfect.

I am really just looking for experiences and insights that are not on the company's websites.

Thanks again, I have a lot of new things to think about!

Wow, its interesting enough that their is no fact to support that evidence. Just someones word for it.

Im glad to see you have such a strong bashing of a company. Some states might consider it slander.

In any event Phoduma. Im glad to read your one line post praising one and always bashing another tend to come up in ever thread. Only thing I will say to you in regards to this.

    Back on subject.

Just figure out which comapny fits your needs the most and if you are looking for the best priced their are cheaper sources out there if you search =).

    Exactly what are you looking?

    in EX;

    Barebone system
Top of the line for gaming
    Graphic design multi tasking computer

    etc..

I'm looking for a game machine that will last me 3 years.
I want to play Mass Effect, Diablo 3, Starcraft 2- all with mostly high settings
Fallout 3 with medium & High settings.
I would like to beable to play whatever the big thing is in 3 years at medium settings?

Specs-wise i was looking at something like:
    P9500
    2GB
    320GB 7200HD
    160GB 7200HD(for backups)
One 3870 (to be upgraded in a year or so to dual or hopefully 4000 series)
    Win XP (my own copy)
    $2155.34

I might go for 4GB Ram, Vista 64, and Dual 3870s

I am also looking at: Dell M4400 (underpowered), Dell M6400(overpriced), Sager NP8660, Sager NP9262, and Gateway P-7811 FX

Does this answer your question?--and thanks for your thoughts!

I think your sig has a superior config! What about accident care for $349? There is a good chance i'll never need it and a new LCD may cost around that much anyways. Any thoughts?

If you are only using the HD for backups, you will want to go with a raid setup to auto write to both HD's so you will need the same size HD's in both slots. To make it easy on yourself.

Also I would agree if it is just for backups I would also suggest you go with an External HD, one with a one touch backup slot so you can hit it before you go to bed.

Go with the Duel 3870's in crossfire.

Get 4Gigs of ram anything else wait for it to drop in price.

Go with Vista business and it will gie you the 64 bit support.

I would og with the QX9100 OC'ed to 3.0 Gigs personally. or could go with the Quad core QX9300.

Hopefully when the 4870's come out they will be a drop in upgrade.

Mark over at K|N will norammly give them to you at cost or maybe slighlty above if you buy from him dont know about the others TBH.

I would get the no dead pixel policy cause how mad would it make you to have a dead pixel on your LCD lol.

IIRC on this model its $99 at xotic unless you go with a plan that has it included . K|N includes it in their price.

Yes it does, my 3 year warranty is the manufactures warranty (OCZ) provided through RK Computers. From what i have found out the one exotic offers is not. It is their own warranty...

    EDIT:
I just called RK Computers, my notebook also has 24/7 IN HOUSE tech support provided by RK Computers and not any 3rd party.

RK Computers also has a standard "no dead pixel" warranty. I also had checked out killer notebooks and they also have "no dead pixel". exotic does not.

Your post contains one link that has nothing to do with the topic. Maybe you should read http://www.guruofgaming.com/modules.php?name=Forums&file=viewtopic&p=25502#25502 before you go riding off on a white horse. Because after I read both threads I find your link to that story deplorable.

I'm not going to say any more other than I read them both. I also read about the past issues on NBR at Guru. What Xotic says in that post doesn't even make sense. You can find all that stuff for yourself Duy, I don't have to link it.

You were already involved in starting cross thread flaming, you even chimed in in a thread that tried to say, "Don't cross post and start flaming wars." Why don't you get your notebook from whoever you want and stop trying to cause problems.

Anyone can rep me with an, "A-men" if they are just done with the bickering like I am.

i dont see it being a big deal like everyone say it is

how so, i just did my same config and comes to $2425.00 and RK doesnt even offer 3% cash discount, nor 3 year warranty stock, but it does have no-dead pixel, if i add the 3 year plan it comes to $2784.00, total comes to $2456.04 with no-dead pixel + 3 year from xotic, pretty sure xoticpc has all this calculated out to me it has best price

if ur a perfectionist like myself then u wont need it, im ready for this laptop, i already brought monster screen clean, microfiber cloths, air duster, icemat, wireless keyboard, logitech stand, etc (with the money i saved at xoticpc ;)) i will also do a small review and take a lot of pictures for you guys when it comes

You make no sense, you state RK does not offer a 3 year warranty but then you go and add it?????????

    LOOK:

Barebone with manufactures (OCZ) 3 year:

    http://www.rkcomputer.net/rkcnotebooks/index.php?l=product_detail&p=103

    System with manufacture (OCZ)3 year:

    http://www.rkcomputer.net/rkcnotebooks/index.php?l=product_detail&p=95

    RK offers cash discount:

    http://www.rkcomputer.net/rkcnotebooks/index.php?l=page_view&p=pricing_details

What you don't realize is you are not comparing the same thing here. RK offers the manufactures warranty. If a reseller goes bust you still have the warranty reguardless......................

If you purchase a resellers OWN warranty and they go BUST you have ZIP.........

The prices at RK for a 17" notebook warranty are comparable to any other manufactures warranty for 3 years. Yes the 3rd year is more, it is through the manufacture not the reseller.

When comparing prices lets stay in the same ballpark...........

And that is the same price xotic charges for a sager extended warranty because it is a REAL warranty through the manufacture.

In these times with LARGE company's going bust trust me, I'll pay the extra and stick with the manufactures warranty.

OH NO IT DOES NOT. I called OCZ to be sure i was getting the manufactures warranty when i purchased this notebook from RK. (that's just the way i am).

The notebook from OCZ has a 1 YEAR warranty and the reseller can add a 2 or 3 year to the notebook. I checked with OCZ and my serial is "branded" to a 3 year extended warranty.

Who ever is providing this mis-information to you is not the person/company you want to be doing business with..........

Yeah wow, Thats amazing, Sometimes people just take things to far, don't they.

Anyways, Back on topic, When I was getting a sager np8660, I had called powernotebooks, and exotic, And personally, exotic acted like I was inconveniencing them by calling them, all 3 times I called them, and both times I chatted on line with them. I doubt xoticpc will ever see a dollar from my wallet.

I ordered the Nagamaki from K|N, Mark seem to be a very knowledgeable System Builder, He will work with you on your order, and do whatever it takes to make you happy. Give him a call and talk to him yourself, like someone earlier mentioned, Call both places and ask them a list of questions, and see who you feel more comfortable with, BTW I'm sure your call with xoticpc will be alot shorter, they don't care much for chit-chat

This is what we were trying to avoid in this forum pooduma. Your posts get people angry and start trouble. Other forum members have talked about it before. I tried to say something earlier and you put, "I don't give a * what others think".

Maybe you should because people have been nice about it, but it is getting to the point of needing to complain to a moderator. If you really want to promote a company go ahead. You aren't putting a very good face on the customers of the company you are preaching about though.

Someone asked earlier in this forum about the warranty. The owner of Xotic said that the warranty was through Xotic not anyone else. Maybe that was another story. Seems like it is Mother Goose and Grimm over there.

I don't think they started selling them until later. I remember RK Computers was on the forums when it wasn't even OCZ, it was just "Other Manufacturers".

When you guys called did they say they built the computers or does Sager build these for them also?

I very highly doubt this - it's more likely you dialed a wrong number and whomever answered was trying to humor you. However, on the off chance it really did happen, why not go straight to the top, and ask to speak to Justin Nolte - the owner. So far as I know, he's always more than happy to discuss matters with people, even when they're not potential customers, and knows what he's talking about.

Define a "real warranty." So far, the only un-real warranties I've come across were those issued by hybridgear/PCMW - another fly-by-the-seat-of-the-pants operation.

On the other hand, given the length of time xoticpc has been in business, and the resellerrating that company has, the warranties they issue appear to be quite genuine.

This thread has gone off-topic and the last two pages have been harsh comments, so I'm closing it.
